A whale of a time! Copenhagen enjoys a big time... - because its cultural festival is a feast and all the muses are welcome. - because its festival has expanded to a huge area, enabling attendance of more people. - because it embraces new projects and at the same time, always holds hands with the traditional associations. - because the entire harbour is a living organism, it breaths, it grows, it makes our minds and hearts travel to new lands, exactly the way Arts and Sports do. Copenhagen is the grant carrier of a cultural festival celebrating all the aspects that make life worth enjoying; loud and silent, above and below, light and shadow, warm and cool, presence and absence, and more than anything: a huge scale of emotions. Actually, the hugest of them all. That's one of the reasons I chose the whale concept. This huge, endearing mammal is part of the folklore of virtually every seafaring civilization - a folklore element presented in a contemporary way. This concept serves to imply that the city is on a happy “journey” during the Kulturhavn festival, showing Copenhagen built (or traveling) on top of a benign whale; a city in constant motion and activity. Moreover, it optimizes the sea element, a dominant characteristic in Copenhagen's culture and in Kulturhavn festival. The symbols (indicating Music, Theater, and Sports) are presented like hot-air balloons above the port of Copenhagen, complimenting the basic concept of constant motion and activity all over the city. Additionally, they are strengthening the idea of festivity with their colorfulness and playfulness. So... Let's have a whale of a time!
