Iceland Tales 

Who are those muses taking me to the abyss? 
They suddenly come back, after the time of dying from my own ennui. 
The place where I live is myself. I am a blue-green forest tasting the mist. 
A heartbeat. 
For you dance and notes that translate the caress of hunger for fire and vanishing scars into the flowers we are wearing today. 
Habitat is where they inspire the reflection of my blood. I am you: the familiar look. 
Projecting myself  from within, I craft a shelter so eternal that makes me let go any fear with the each and every daylight.

Irene Cruz invites us to look from the deep within, right from the edge of silent phrases she translates through her muses, the well-known figures. Authors of an inspirational breeze turned into friends. They all gather together and mark a precept of becoming the same delicate identity. It is the name given to all, silky skin in the flesh with the right dress, and their favorite flowers resting on the linings that scarcely delimit their earthly body, from a landscape filled with bluish haze and colors of rare hours, at the eternal autumnal forest. They make one feel the sweetness of the perfume that bathes them and slides down their neck, binds the limbs with carelessness or rests on the preferred turns of desire; crowning their hair or waiting for the next movements, foreign to any fear.

The Muses 

Last June 25th the 9th edition of Pop Up Kino Video Art Festival took place in Berlin, its opening started with the performative presentation of the photo-book “Corneilles” made by the artists Irene Cruz and Leila Amat

On Satuday Pop Up Kino Festival ,organised by Irene Cruz, Ana Sandrutos and Nati Grund was held again.  Located in the district of Kreuzberg, on Berlín’s heart, it brings together several artists with the aim of creating a dialogue and sharing  their artworks.  In this edition, the festival collaborated with Under The Subway Video Art Night, and the video projections were simultaneously shown in New York (The Local NYC), Buenos Aires (Kino Palais), Valencia (Octubre Centro de Arte Contemporáneo) and Madrid (La Casa Encendida). In this event  Leila Amat and Irene Cruz  showed a little exhibition about their last joint work “Corneilles”. Accompanying the pictures on the wall, several photobooks, and prints complemented the exhibition. 

“Corneilles” has always being presented on in a performative way, a show that consists in recreating some pictures from the book, and reading some of the texts that comprise it. In this  setup, the authors only perform a text or an image if they hear a shiny object falling on a box. Inspired on the gathering of shiny objects by some birds (like crows, for example), the asistants participate by throwing  some Little coins, glasses, screws or jewlery on the box.

Pop Up Kino lasted all afternoon until the evening, in a calm atmosphere where the assistants could enjoy the videos,  photographs, and also good vegan food. 

On Sunday, both artists returned  to Treptower Park, where “Corneilles” Project was born, to bury the wooden box which included the shiny objects from the performances that were held in Madrid, Málaga, Barcelona and Berlin. Some instant pictures of those events, a copy of the photobook, and a letter that describes in English the aim of this work, just for clearing the unknowns, in case a lucky someone finds the hidden treasure

Video-installation and photography amalgamate in HABITAT to define a favourable Environment, not only for reflection but also for aesthetic contemplation. Through video installation the spectator is invited for the first time to be a part of her work, therefore, they are also invited to wonder about the relationship between men and nature. As Joachim Ritter suggests, the landscape is a cultural construct created by modern society, which being away from nature is only able to admire its beauty once it has emancipated from the needs that linked it to nature. Nevertheless, the landscape does not exist without a spectator that considers that this piece of nature is subject to be contemplated, the artist invites the spectator to adopt another viewpoint. She pushes the spectator to abandon his passive observer role and to get into nature so as to get his body involved by nature. At the same time, while the body becomes a receptacle of sensations during this aesthetic experience, it is when the body gets into nature when it becomes a conscious part of nature. As the artist claims, our society has forgotten that we are a part of nature, that we come from nature and that it rules over us, those are the reasons why we shall come back to nature.
