International co-productions are examples of partnership-based and dialogic collaboration. We promote collaborative work processes and innovative productions in international cultural exchange. In this way, we support the creation of new networks and forms of work in global contexts and try out new ways of intercultural collaboration.

  
The applicant or first co-producer is always the artist or ensemble from a non-German-speaking country. They are the central contact for the project, conclude the contract with the local Goethe-Institut and manage the funding amount. Both private and legal persons can submit an application.

  
Funding from the IKF requires that at least two participants cooperate with each other. In this respect, a partnership with artists or ensembles from Germany is essential. Third parties and additional co-producers are not absolutely necessary to obtain co-production funding, but they increase the chances of approval. The definition of "co-producer" is deliberately broad. A substantial contribution to the production is crucial.

  
Contacting the local Goethe-Institut in the applicant's country is a mandatory requirement for submitting a funding application. If there is no Goethe-Institut in the applicant's country, please look for the nearest institute under Locations on our website and contact our colleagues there.

International Co-Production Fund (ICF)

Cooperation and coproductions strengthen intercultural exchange and foster international networking between cultural scenes. Individual stipends enable musicians, composers and musical creators to spend two to four weeks working in a host country of their choice, encouraging them to research and familiarize themselves with new aspects of their work and to establish new artistic relationships.

  
**Funding criteria**

  
* All project partners are deeply involved in their own local music scenes.
* The application includes a concept for artistic research, international exchange and networking across borders.
* The project can be expected to have lasting artistic and social effects on the music scenes involved.
* Ideally, first results of the cooperation will be visible even during the stay within the scene of the host country.
* Ties to the local music scene may be intensified by collaborating with a Goethe-Institut in the host country, if applicable. In places where a local Goethe-Institut exists, it is recommended to discuss possibilities of project-related events, such as panel formats, workshops, lecture-performances, concerts or similar, before the working stay.
* Sustainability criteria applied to choice of transport: we support train trips, especially those within Europe of up to seven hours of travel time. Additional costs incurred compared to air travel will be considered for eligibility.

**What we fund**

* Working stays lasting two to four weeks in a host country of your choice
* Research and preparations for larger artistic projects
* Collection of materials for artistic (co-)productions in a host country
* Preparation and/or production of first joint compositions/co-productions with those involved in the cooperation project in the host country
* Initiation of networks with artists and multipliers

  
Our funding covers travel costs as well as a stipend for accommodation, meals and other expenses

**Our funding does not cover:** 

* Album productions, trips with the sole purpose of touring or giving guest performances, pre-existing invitations to artistic residencies, master courses, summer schools, study stays, commercial further education seminars, scientific research stays, docent stays, travel of a touristic nature or family visits
* Travel to German-speaking foreign countries

Funding for Work Stays Abroad

Are you planning an international project and wish to make key contacts abroad? We provide travel grants for artistic research! Consideration of sustainability criteria in the choice of means of transport: For travel times of up to seven hours and/or 600 km we prefer to support rail travel. We assess the eligibility of additional costs compared to air fares. At the time of application, no firm bookings (flights, hotels) may have been made for the requested parts of the trip.

  
Travel to German-speaking countries is excluded from funding.

**We cover travel expenses and/or provide a weekly allowance of €500 for artistic research abroad. Funding is available for a maximum stay of two weeks.**

  
Study visits, trips of a touristic nature, guest performance trips, attendance at festivals, advanced training courses, commercial training seminars, as well as the implementation of courses, advanced training courses, etc. are excluded from funding. Persons who are invited by a residence/organizer are generally excluded from the research stay funding.
