An abstract geometric  work, oil on canvas. I was aiming to create a sense of movement and waves that carry you uncontrollably. They used to be breakwaves but I guess the sea swept them away.

This painting is part of the a series that is still in progress. The project is based on opposites. The bright colors are barely perceptible and monochrome predominates; texture creates the desire to touch. In some it is deep and rough, in others - smooth and gentle. Matte and glossy sections alternate. Often the apparent is not what it seems and the whole series gravitate around that. There is a lot of color in the darkness, the viewer just has to look to find it.

The following work was my presentation at the 5th Balkan quadriennale of painting “The myths and legends of my people”, held in the gallery in Stara Zagora. I was awarded the prize for emerging artist.
The painting is inspired by the Bulgarian folklore tales about samodivas (wood nymphs). According to folklore those mythical creatures are beautiful female spirits that live in the forests and mountains, near rivers, ponds and wells and in particular - in the mythical village of Zmeykovo, which no one knows where is located and no one could find it except for it’s inhabitants. They have a very strong bond with nature and therefore have a great knowledge of herbs and healing.
Samodivas enter the human world during spring and it is said that not everyone could see them. They are known for their beautiful songs and hypnotic voices. Men often fall in love with them and chase them tirelessly. But when they try to tame their nature, men ussually find their death. Samodivas’ horo (the dance) begins at midnight near a lake or river and finishes at dawn. It symbolized the raw energy of nature and the supernatural world. According to folklore, often their character is vindictive and not particulary good, but they also tend to help people in need or ones that have been good to them.

This work is a part of “Through the Window" series.
The series emphasizes the oppositions inside -
outside, personal - common, familiar - alien, reality - illusion.
A window, which is usually a kind of a portal to the
outside world, is now a barrier to it. A metaphor for the hardship and obstacles one faces when connecting with the outside world. The series also raises
the question of which the real world is - the one within us
or the one outside. Do we create reality or does it create us?
