arebyte Gallery presents SHE KEEPS ME DAMN ALIVE, an exhibition by artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley that uses video games, animation, sound and voice to capture, preserve and archive Black Trans Existence. 

The exhibition uses the artist’s recent series of DOTCOM works blacktransarchive.com, blacktransair.com and blacktranssea.com as a starting point for furthering the archiving of Black Trans experience via interactivity and storytelling. The exhibition encompasses a new body of work that positions gaming at the forefront of ideas surrounding action, inaction, relation and archiving experience.⁠

SHE KEEPS ME DAMN ALIVE presents visitors with an immersive point-and-shoot style arcade game that asks them to question how their choices and actions (or inactions) affect others directly. The exhibition positions the player at the heart of a situation demanding a reflection, an action and ultimately a stance to protect the lives of Black Trans people. 

By taking part in the game the player also participates in forwarding the ideologies of the Black Lives Matter and Black Trans Lives Matters movements that took precedence worldwide during the pandemic. The movements speak of solidarity, honouring lives lost, and creating spaces where it is “easier for us to breathe”. These are recurring themes throughout the artist’s work and this show presents the power of holding space for memory and legacy. 

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley says:

"This exhibition is my way of archiving. I am trying to build upon something real and expand it so that it can never be forgotten. I see archiving as a way of storing a person in the present so that future generations have something to look back on. Traditional archives have forgotten black trans existence so we need to build our own techniques to store bodies like ours. These have to come from us and be done by us."

On entering the gallery, visitors are confronted with a how-to-play guide that asks “Can you protect Black Trans people with a gun?” and requests them not to  “SHOOT BLACK TRANS PEOPLE”. This call to action forms the narrative of the game and is part of a larger framework to promote accountability surrounding the black trans community and beyond. It also suggests an alternative history of what arcade games could have been: an anti-violent gun game that questions the use of guns to prevent harm. 

Each player experiences a unique set of obstacles in their quest to protect the main protagonist on three separate levels; water, city and dungeon. The game forces each player to take ownership of their situation, whether they choose to play as a protector or destroyer, and whether they choose to centre themselves or another as the player. 

As SHE KEEPS ME DAMN ALIVE asks: “Do you think you have the power to protect others?”

Warmness 

For about 20 years Karin Gier has been working with earth from the local open-cast mines, the surrounding area or on the road. Even found objects with traces of wear and weathering wander into her studio and are often part of paintings and assemblages.Karin Gier found her inspiration for the material and the “colours of the earth” through a workshop with Ilse Krause and by taking part in a guided tour of the Garzweiler open-cast mine in Grevenbroich. Since then she has been accompanied by the material, which symbolizes the cycle of life, the process of becoming and passing away. With great reverence she uses the different, grown layers of earth, which are revealed in open-cast mining landscapes. Every colour and texture of the earth, every find tells its own story, just like Karin Giger’s elaborately crafted layered, washed and (opened/broken) works.

“Love in Times of War’ is a specially commissioned collection of works uncovering experiences and feelings in relation to the Spanish Civil War. Personally, I felt quite affected and confused having my father’s family from a military background and my mother’s family being Republican. It caused me deep pain to feel a personal connection to so many deaths caused.

My research lead me to collate images that were closest to my idea of love in wartime. Amongst others, I found several relevant and iconic photographs by the photojournalist Robert Capa. I decided to use the images that moved me the most for my works, in a way similar to Andy Warhol in his pop art. At the same time I was reading the book ‘Psychomagic: The Sacred Trap’ by Alejandro Jodorowsky. His idea of Psychomagic is based on the belief that the unconscious can be healed from trauma by performing specific acts. The act of framing all my works with a heart in one way or another can be interpreted as an attempt to heal the pain that war has left in all of us.

The paintings tell us about a part of the historical memory of humanity. We all have relatives who have directly lived through the experience of a war, through the fear and pain. I am trying to help open a way of liberation from these experiences of the past, through and with the heart. The images represent, often dangerous situations where love always intervenes in one way or another, big or small. We should give the heart the opportunity to heal the pain that we carry from our past and step into a better future.

J.Kesin was born in Hamburg, Germany.

After receiving an MA in applied cultural studies, life events lead him to live in several countries.

Particular periods which influenced his art styles and concepts were his time in Russia and Uzbekistan during the early 90s with the opening up of the Central Asian republics. 

More recent influences come from his time spent in England and Spain.

Self-taught during his early years, he has gone on to train formally, to further expand his knowledge and develop his career as an artist.

MUARCO – the exhibition in the museum in the exhibition targets the new normal in museums and public art spaces. It questions the relation between the visitor, art producer and the important cultural entry museum, as well as questioning the market components and traditional roles. It also explores a new normal in the narrative of iconographic perception of the museum itself.
The artist becomes the facilitator of an art production space. The museum becomes the host of this space and the visitor becomes the creative expanding the art work. But all the components together are forming the art work itself. The museum transcended from a passive storage and source of academic dispute to a source of creation. Accepted art finally ends in the museum, and now the museum will be a highly recommended and important creator of the artwork and therefore of the contemporary arts.
The connection between the visitor / co-producer of the art work and the museum will also create the foundation of a long term relationship and improve the acceptance for the important role of the museum to evaluate and guard the culture of the society.

Juan feels truly European and he works and lives in several countries that are all home to him. He believes that the unifying identity of the future Europe will be created through its cultural diversity, and that this new identity could provide a utopian blueprint for other parts of the world.

With art being a central part of the concept of culture the aim of Juan’s art is to visualise this identity now, thus helping to advance the process of identity creation.

Juan is the founder of the gallery Casa del Dragon and of the European art network EL-DRAC. More recently he started the first colour garden, as part of sevengardens.eu, a UNESCO certified project in Spain.

Sonia’s work is framed within abstract symbolism. Her main theme brought her to the circle as a universal symbol, and the encounter between the aesthetic philosophy of western and eastern discourse.

She has a strong interest in philosophy and oriental arts, I Ching, Tao Te King Lao Tse and Sumi-e technique, all of which has influenced her concepts and style as an artist.

Sonia studied art at the Universidad de Bellas Artes Sant Jordi in Barcelona and her work has been shown in France, Spain and Germany.

Each of Sonia’s current works is a compositional game between the simplicity of the circle and the organic complexity of colours and landscapes.

Eve Leibe Gallery presents "Sending Up A Flare," a solo show by Sally Scopa. Scopa's paintings contain shimmering, flame-like marks that generate a sense of tension and barely-controlled chaos. Elaborately rendered gilt frames border many of her paintings, threatening to overwhelm the tiny painted scenes within. Meanwhile, her paintings of hearths, windows, and houses on fire combine domestic and natural imagery, addressing themes of disruption, transformation, and the complexity of contemporary life.

Sally Scopa (b. 1990, San Francisco, CA) is an artist currently living and working in San Francisco. She holds a Masters in Art Practice from Stanford University and a Bachelor in Visual & Environmental Studies at Harvard University. She recently ended a residency at Cité Des Arts International Studio Residency, Paris and SOMA Summer, Mexico City. She recently showed at Plumaje, Biquini Wax EPS, Mexico City and Axis 14th National Juried Exhibition, juror Amy Owen, Axis Gallery, Sacramento.

**In the heat of Brooklyn’s creative season, Bushwick Gallery opens its doors to three visual artists for a month-long summer residency designed not just for making—but for meaning. Studio Summer** offers time, space, and visibility to artists committed to experimentation, process, and presence. The residency culminates in a one-night, non-commercial public showcase, offering a rare glimpse into the raw edge of creation—works in motion, ideas mid-flight.

Artists are provided access to a shared, open-plan studio space within the gallery, available daily from 8 AM to 8 PM. While the program does not include housing or a financial award, it offers something increasingly rare in New York’s art landscape: uninterrupted time in a professional gallery setting, supported by curatorial mentorship and institutional promotion.

The residency will be directed by **Maëlis Tomassone**, a France-born, New York-based artist whose work channels the spirit of the streets through layered paper, charcoal, and oil pastel. Known for her spontaneous yet deeply intuitive practice, Tomassone brings both critical rigor and expressive freedom to her role as curator and mentor.

Joining her on the selection panel are:

– **Roman Cochet**, painter and sculptor exploring post-human stillness and fragmented memory

– **Gina Keatley**, abstract artist and founder of Bushwick Gallery, whose work investigates erosion, endurance, and quiet resistance

Bushwick Gallery invites applications from painters, mixed-media artists, and those working across visual disciplines with a distinctive point of view. This is a residency for artists who are ready to go deep, challenge form, and create in community—without distraction, but with dialogue.

Studio Summer: A Residency with Showcase at Bushwick Gallery

The Culterim | Independent Class is an art class with an accompanying curriculum. The focus is on the development, experimentation and expansion of the 12-15 participants' own artistic practice. To this end, each participant has their own workspace in our Culterim | Studios for the duration of the class. In addition to their own work, exchange and reflection are focussed on and practised. A change of perspective and courage are encouraged and challenged in group and individual discussions.

The curriculum includes an examination of theoretical aspects of art as well as a wide range of practical hard skills for working as a freelance artist. A special focus of the programme is on teaching and getting to know the Berlin art scene. To this end, the class will come into contact with and discuss the independent and commercial scene.

At the end of the Culterim | Independent Class, the class plans, curates and produces its own exhibition accompanied by the head of class. After the final show, participants are allowed to use their studio against a reduced fee for two more months

**Curriculum details**

**_Workplace/ studio space_**

All participants receive a studio space in one of the three class studios in the Culterim | Studios | Waldstraße in Berlin-Reinickendorf. Everyone will be part of the Culterim | Studio community from day one. The studios in Waldstraße are in very good condition, the workstations are 15-20 square metres in size and equipped with chairs and work tables. The studio house is directly connected to public transport (6 minutes on foot from S+U Karl-Bonhoeffer Nervenklinik (S25, U8), 22 minutes to Friedrichstraße, 24 minutes to Kottbusser Tor). The studios are located directly above a DIY store. See photos for a first impression.

The weekly class meetings form the centrepiece of the class. These alternate between group and individual discussions with the head of class Fred Unruh in the studios and various exchange formats. In these formats, the participants regularly work with guest contributions and engage in dialogue with actors from the Berlin art scene.

**_Head of class - Fred Unruh_**

Fred Unruh is a co-founder of the Berlin art collective Studio Huette and has been an integral part of Culterim since the beginning. In addition to various exhibitions of his own in Germany, Switzerland and France, he took over the artistic direction of the Culterim | Residency Programme at the Gutshof in Dahlewitz in 2023 and 2024 and was part of the three-member curatorial team of Culterim.

Fred Unruh is currently in his graduate year at the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee with Professor Albrecht Schäfer and is studying as a guest student at the Universität der Künste. He completed a guest semester in the Feldmann painting class and at the L'école des Beaux-Arts de Marseille and was a scholarship holder of the Lucia Loeser Foundation. Before taking the step to establish himself in art, he completed a degree in sociology and psychology in Mannheim and Istanbul.

The cultivated change of perspective in group and individual discussions, both as artistic director in the Culterim | Residency Programme and from the perspective of a student at the various art universities, consolidated his ambition to bring the wide-ranging artistic exchange to life in a concrete teaching programme in the Culterim | Independent Class.

**_Language_**

German and English are spoken in the Culterim | Independent Class. We recommend very good knowledge of at least one of the two languages.

**_Participation fee_**

The participation fee for the Culterim | Independent Class for 4 months is **500 euros per month**. The fee covers the entire curriculum including excursions, guest contributions and exhibition participation as well as a permanent studio space.

**ARC Gallery is pleased to announce a \*fully funded Open Call for three Solo Exhibitions for August 2025\. This specific call is for emerging artists. A.R.C. defines “emerging” in regard to this call, as an artist who has not yet had a solo exhibition in a major US city, such as our hometown of Chicago.**

A.R.C. Gallery is pleased to announce an Open Call for **three fully funded Emerging Artist Solo Exhibitions** in August 2025\. This Exhibition Award is made possible by a generous grant from the Athena Foundation in support of making solo show opportunities accessible to a broader audience. Visual artists of all disciplines, ages and geographic locations are encouraged to apply. The artists will be selected by the A.R.C. cooperative based on the quality of their work and commitment to their practice.

Due to the nature of this call, examples of work submitted must be of the actual work to be exhibited, and include a clear plan of display within the gallery space. Work must be completed, available, and ready to display as of the date of submission. A.R.C. will make the final decision on which space the selected proposals will be installed.

Exhibitions for the three selected artists will take place in August 2025\. Work will be installed on July 27, and the deinstallation will occur on August 30th. The Opening Reception will be August 1st, 5-8pm. Selected artists will be expected to be present for all three dates, and to work with A.R.C. members to install and deinstall their work. A.R.C. will work with selected artists leading up to the installation and opening of the exhibitions.

Societal conventions pressure us to conform to like-mindedness, yet the most ethereal craft often originates from divergent work that transgresses tradition. True innovation and creative brilliance often occur when individuals question or break away from established norms. How does your work depict or challenge the concept of beauty? Beauty in Decay is an international open call for photographers ages 18 and older. ​​​​​​​All forms of two-dimensional images, traditional and non-conventional media, and conventional or alternative photographic processes with a subjective analog or digital photographic base are welcome for submission.

Giertz Gallery at Parkland College seeks exhibition proposals by solo artists, collaborative groups, or curators in all genres of contemporary approaches to art-making. Preference will be given to artists with an established exhibition record. Giertz Gallery is a professionally designed gallery devoted primarily to education through contemporary art. It hosts seven exhibitions annually, including one student exhibition, one Art and Design Faculty Show, and a National Invitational. Other shows vary depending on applications and the vision of the Director and Advisory Board.

Giertz Gallery is more than just an exhibition space. It's a dynamic platform that brings contemporary art to the forefront. Our teaching gallery hosts programs featuring professional artists, allowing faculty to use the gallery as an instructional resource. This setup benefits our students and the community, who get to experience the artwork firsthand, and the artists, who can share their creative process and artistic journey. 

Exhibits run for approximately six weeks, and the artist is responsible for expenses and insurance during the artwork's transportation to the gallery. 

  
We provide return shipping or an honorarium to cover return travel expenses. Additionally, we offer an honorarium for participating in visiting artist activities such as lectures, gallery talks, and workshops.

Solo Exhibition Applications Now Open for 2026

The Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art (BGSW) is a cultural institution of the Pomeranian Provincial Government, whose mission is to promote contemporary art. BGSW has three showrooms: the Witches’ Tower, the Small Gallery located in Słupsk and the Centre for Creative Activities in Ustka. Baltic Art Gallery in Ustka was established in 1987 and located in the historic grain store. In 2013, it changed its name to the Centre for Creative Activities. The change of the name and image was the result of the implementation of a project called the Comprehensive Development Programme for the Baltic Gallery of Modern Art – the Establishment of the Centre for Creative Activities in Ustka. The Centre for Creative Activities is the result of a complete modernization of the facility where until recently only a part of the area was occupied by the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery. Currently, the entire granary went in the possession of the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art. It is the first centre of its kind in Poland and one of the few abroad. After rebuilding the Centre for Creative Activities has gained some well-equipped studios of sculpture and ceramics and computer graphics and film. The Centre for Creative Activities also has an auditorium and an exhibition hall. Modern fitted hotel with cafe facilities is prepared to accommodate the artist-in-residence stays. From the artistic stays mainly benefit artists from abroad. 

The Centre for Creative Activities is a place of interdisciplinary activities for a broad range of visual arts. Here are realized film projects, music, theatre and performances. The Gallery invites the outstanding artists from Poland and abroad.  Another task of the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery (BGSW) is educational activities aimed at broadening the audience of contemporary art in all age, and the preparation of active recipients of contemporary art through a direct participation in it. We offer many attractive forms of education, among other things: lessons about art, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, film screenings and more. An important part of the educational activities are lessons and lectures organized for children, high school students, college students and adults. Within this framework are also held workshops conducted by artists whose aim is to familiarize the viewer with various technologies and media used by contemporary artists.

Description of the residency program: 
Residences are international; artists are invited from Poland and abroad. The preferred projects of artistic residencies relate to art in public space, a socially engaged art. We invite above all artists who work in the public space, involving the local community. During their residencies the artists should refer to the place where they are, that is to a small seasonal village, making (if possible) the local community to commit in their work. The final result should be the joint work of the artist and local inhabitants. The program is cyclical. Duration of residence from 2 months. Each artistic stay ends with a summary and a public presentation of the work’s effect in the form of an author’s meeting, self-presentation or exhibition. 

BGSW provides accommodation in the Centre for Creative Activities and the use of the laboratory of photography, film, sculpture and ceramics workshop and the lecture hall (including the possibility of the presentation of creative work). The organizer offers single and double rooms with access to kitchen, dining room and laundry. At the request of a resident, he or she will receive support during any installation work.

The Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery of Broward College in Davie, Florida is currently seeking proposals for the 2024-2025 exhibition season in our 1200 sq ft space.

Group exhibitions and curatorial proposals are welcomed, as well as solo exhibition proposals.

**Exhibition Proposals**

Proposals for solo or group exhibits (any medium) in the Pogue Art Gallery are accepted on a rolling basis and should be submitted to the director of the Pogue Art Gallery electronically. Complete submissions will include:

* An exhibition proposal.
* An artist statement.
* At least 10 images (submit as a PDF, link to an electronic dropbox, or link to a website).

The gallery schedule is completed for at least two years in advance and exhibits are on view for an average of four to six weeks. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs. ECU provides wall-to-wall insurance coverage for works of art that are on view in the Pogue Art Gallery for the duration of the exhibit.
