SCG ART Program

Placer Community Foundation (PCF) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that manages the Susan Cooley Gilliom Artist in Residence & Teaching Program (SCG ART Program).  In partnership with PCF the program is housed through Blue Line Arts in Roseville, CA. The SCG ART program brings established artists to Placer County for the purpose of teaching and sharing their artistic talents and experience with the greater community. The program was lovingly established at PCF in memory of a local artist, Susan Cooley Gilliom, by her family.  Both Susan and her mother took part in workshops from established and talented artists.  They appreciated the perspective and expertise it offered their own work and wanted similar opportunities afforded to local artists, art students, art educators, and art enthusiasts in Susan’s hometown and county.

This opportunity is now open for Local Artists living in any of the following counties: Placer, Nevada, El Dorado, Sacramento, Yolo, Sutter, and Butte.  

Residency Period: Friday, August 19th – Saturday, September 10th, 2022
Artist Lecture Presentation: Saturday, August 20th, 2022 during the 3rd Saturday Reception from 4-5 pm.
Artist Demos/Open Studio Hours: 4 weekdays during gallery hours, times to be confirmed with the selected artist.
School Tours: 1-3 visits by local students, to be confirmed with the selected artist.
Workshop(s): to be confirmed by the selected artist.  Previous SCG ART recipients have taught 2-3 day art workshops for beginner, intermediate, advanced, or all skill levels.

Your online application form must include the following:

Cover Letter describing the workshop(s) you wish to conduct, including materials and equipment required for participants (1-2 pages maximum, PDF format)
A Curriculum Vitae (1-2 pages maximum, PDF format)
An Artist’s Statement (1-page maximum, PDF format)
Artist Work Examples: 5-10 high-quality digital images of the Artist’s work
Artist Headshot: a recent portrait head photograph of the artist (1-2 images maximum)
Artist at Work: A recent photo of the Artist at work in their studio (1-3 images)
Any other documentation of the Artist’s work on video or via website link is welcomed but not required
The selection of the artist is made in accordance with the following:

-Exhibition of the Artist’s work in a variety of public and private spaces.
-Proven experience teaching and/or lecturing to diverse audiences and artistic levels.
-The artistic quality of the proposed workshop.
-Committee selection seeks to include accomplished visual artists working in a range of media.
