This exhibition is linked to an investigation within the scope of a PhD in Fine Arts, taking place at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, which studies the presence of the human figure in the recent Portuguese artistic context. The present meeting covers a small group of new artists whose common denominator is the recurrent integration of human presence in their paintings.
The human, as a social context and the body, whether fragment, naked or dressed, are, in these compositions, of a major importance that acquires a new meaning at the beginning of the millennium. The approach is varied and is made from references to the world of eroticism and human relations, to the banal situations of everyday life, passing by mysterious figures inhabiting spaces revived particularly by the painting itself.
There is also in these works, in an underlying way or not, the inseparable drawing of the human figure. Using references of different natures, we can see a sample of the infinite modes of graphic and pictorial approach of the human body. In fact, we find several approaches concerned in different degrees with the structure, with the essential, with the pleasant, with the ephemeral, with the caricature and with the grotesque. This diverse range of approaches seeks to be a small sample of the infinite possibility of integrating the human figure, and in particular the head, which, far from being exhausted, appears renewed and with new instigations that certainly contribute to a better understanding of our collective and personal identity .
