Brussels has quickly raised as a new capital of Europe’s art scene. It’s central position plays a key role in this quick raise, its central both geographically and in an existential way, being less commercially driven than Paris or London, but at the same time is more commercial than Berlin.

Or as the New York Times stated “Unlike Berlin, where art is made but generally not bought, or Paris, where it’s often the opposite, Brussels is a city of both commerce and creation”.

This unique characteristics allow for both side of the spectrum space for an experimental scene and a commercial one. Both flourishing and in constant expansion.

The 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art wants you to scoff at the present. DIS, a New York based art collective the curated this year’s Biennale, chose the theme: The Present in Drag. The Present in Drag was less queer in nature (as one would assume with the title) and more minimalist and Internet-interested. Elements of product design, disorienting realism, and flippant critique were central to the curatorial handiwork. The Three Most Interesting Pieces at the 9th Berlin Biennale

We would like to show some of the new pieces from international artist TEKO VAN KUYK.

These pineapples aim to be a comedic, yet serious, critic onto south american economies. Traditionally named "banana economics". 
With this in mind the artist creates artwork based in tropical fruits, just to sell them in the international market. Thus, creating a export product of the highest artistic value from something that is treated as a weakness from latin economics.
