The lunar module is one of the iconographic images that have become engraved in the collective memory of humanity. Anne Wölk's painting "Apollo 16" shows the lunar module Orion, which landed on our moon in 1972. Brightly lit by the sun, the lander stands in the gray moondust. The great blackness of space spreads out behind it, from which isolated stars twinkle. Apollo 16 was the tenth human-crewed mission in NASA's lunar flight program. For the first time, the lunar highlands have been a target, a cratered and ancient part of the lunar front. Previous missions had landed in or near the lunar seas. The crew brought back 95.8 kg of moon rock from this flight. You can view some rock samples at the "Nördlinger Rieskrater Museum." "The Nördlinger" Ries is an old meteorite crater in southern Germany engineers have used to prepare for the moon landings.

Apollo 16

Anne Wölk's painting "Horsehead Nebula" enables a journey into a distant structure made of glowing interstellar gas. The extraterrestrial landscape, executed in fine detail, offers the opportunity for a moment in quiet reflection. The artist transfers the beauty of the mist into her painting cosmos. The scenery shows an untouched, inaccessible place in nature and enables deep immersion in color, space, and light. The Horsehead Nebula is a 3 light-year part of a dark cloud in the Orion constellation. Like a horse's head, its silhouette stands out majestically against the glowing red emission nebula IC 434. Because of the prevailing conditions in the cosmos, molecules form there that cannot exist on Earth. The gas masses of the dark cloud are in motion, which means that in a few thousand years, the nebula will no longer resemble a horse's head. The nebula is 1,500 light-years away from Earth and therefore appears a quarter the size of the Earth's moon.

The subject matter of the work is the search for exoplanets outside our solar system. The sphere painted with a mountain landscape reflects Wölk's fascination for exploring space and searching for life on other planets. 
Science fiction stories conceptually inspire the painter in the same way as scientific studies of possible colonies on other life-friendly planets. In this context, the work "Second Earth" reflects future industrialized countries' power structures. Who will have access to a potential planet B? 
The utopia of the imagined alternative living ground also raises the question: What will our living habitats look like on other planets?

Man in the age of the Anthropocene is a world builder and creator. He is responsible for preserving the diversity and the wonder of creation. Some scientists are convinced that we are alone in our galaxy. So far, it is not known whether there are other civilizations similar to ours. These considerations could provide an impetus to expand life beyond Earth and to strive for interplanetary colonization. The painting Terraforming shows a colony on a rocky extraterrestrial planet. The painterly appropriation of the subject offers a fantastic interpretation in which romance and utopia can be perceived simultaneously. A film still of a space colony on Neuterra, a fictional planet outside our solar system from a successful Amazon Prime sci-fi series, served as an inspiration. A terraforming program would be necessary to enable people to survive on planets.

The image "Milky Way" is an artwork from the series "Only the stars overhear us" and shows an example of a ski slope that is "decorated" with asteroidal light tubes in the rainbow effect at night.
