Michael Dooney is a gallery director, photographer, lighting designer, consultant & educator. He established Jarvis Dooney (formally Galerie Pavlova) with a focus on contemporary photography and photomedia from both established and emerging artists. Drawing on his own experience as an Australian living in Europe, the galleries programme is primarily built around artists from Australia and New Zealand. Inspired by the institutional model, the gallery is also a forum for dialogue and cultural exchange with the German & European audience. Future plans include assisted residencies between Germany, Australia & New Zealand, individual publications and collaboration with international institutes.
Living and working in Berlin, Michael holds an MA in Architectural Lighting Design and is a design member of the Illuminating Engineering Society IES and Berufsverband Bildender Künstler Berlins E.V. (Association of Visual Artists Berlin). Michael’s photography and light installation’s have been exhibited in Australia and Germany. He also lectures with the NODE Center for Curatorial Studies, is a commissioned judge for the Reminders Photography Stronghold grant, and is a regular panellist in portfolio reviews.
