About

Alexander is a Colombian, Berlin-based artist. He studied Dance at the University of Art ASAB in Colombia. Trained at the Folkwang University of Pina Bausch in Germany at the ArtEZ in Holland. He choreographed his own work on an aesthetic reflection, exploring by his personal interest the concept of ‘The Ugly’ and ‘The Role of the Audience in Performing Arts’. He integrates his roots as an authentic work: Tradition and native customs in South America, and how they influence contemporary western societies and cultures. In 2014, he created a performative solo: ‘Human Intermittent: A Journey’ and a duet ‘WhARTever Should Happened’. Also, performed for Marina Abramovic, for Berliner Choreographer Stella Zannou, being part in Art Basel 2014 with the artists Allora & Calzadilla. Since 2011, Carrillo has been running the "DASEIN” project, which focuses on human creativity, through series of site-specific improvisations. In 2012, Carrillo launched the ‘DREIZIG Festival’ in Berlin to showcase the work of artists in their thirties from different disciplines, celebrating collectively 30 years of art and life.

Throughout his professional career, Carrillo has worked for celebrated international choreographers and dance companies, including: Jerome Bell, Carlos Maria, Cie. Toula Limnaios, Cie. Fors Works, Theater Der Klänge, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Mark Sieczkerek, Henrieta Horn, Reinhard Schiele, Malou Airaudo, Rodolpho Leoni, Charles Vodoz ...
