Avantika relates her identity to the countries she was raised in, her brown skin, orange peels, and found objects. She seeks harmony and contrast in all she creates, whether pairing objects of the same texture, putting orange next to blue, or placing a fossil from Dubai next to a tile from Sicily. Her works stem from the many possibilities of combination between shape and place, arriving at a coexistence.
Born in Washington D.C. to Indian parents and growing up in Seoul, Hanoi, and Dubai, Avantika’s work tackles what it means to be from many places at once. As a School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduate with a BFA and Visual & Critical Studies degree, making art is all she wants to do.
