For the ninth time, the city, together with the Duisburg Artists' Association, is awarding the popular residency grant starting in January 2027.
Starting in January 2027, live and work artistically in Duisburg for a year: For the ninth time, the City of Duisburg, together with the Duisburg Artists' Association, is awarding the coveted residency grant. Artists under 40 from across Germany are invited to apply by August 31st for a free studio in the Rheinhausen district. The grant recipient will also receive additional benefits during their year-long stay, at their discretion: In addition to an apartment and a Germany-wide public transport pass for Duisburg, they will have the opportunity to hold their own exhibition and participate in a publication showcasing their future work in Duisburg.
Lisa Wölfel, the current scholarship recipient, can already look back on three successful months, is planning several solo exhibitions, and has been invited to a group show: “I received a very warm welcome from the Duisburg artists, and someone from the city is always available to answer any questions. I find the artistic environment here refreshingly open and collegial – I think that's something truly special about this scholarship and, in our competitive times, very important for the success of a residency.”
Wölfel concludes: “The Duisburg scholarship offers absolute peace and quiet for artistic work in a spacious studio, plenty of room for independent creative expression, and professional media support for my artistic work from the city's press and social media team.”
Duisburg has been promoting art and culture for decades. Nearly 40 city-owned studios are permanently available rent-free in the Ruhr region city. The Duisburg Artists' Association is actively involved in the local art scene. The residency scholarship is intended to encourage artists to stay in Duisburg long-term.
