Overview

Self-portraiture is self-representation. It allows communication with one's own inner image, which is the base for self-knowledge and personal memory.

Self-portraiture also means storytelling and allows one to talk about one's inner world and

external world.

The workshop focuses on visual arts as a way of seeing and being seen through the body and the different forms that corporeality can have. Its purpose is to develop a method through research, focus on goals, and technical and aesthetic choices that will allow making a project based on self-portraiture.

6 online sessions on Zoom platform, 7 pm – 9.30 pm (CEST), from the 30th of March until the 4th of May.

We will look at contemporary practice and the evolution of the use of the body and self-portraiture in visual arts and performance practice.

Body, sound, writing, memory, and movement will be at the centre of our work.

One of the sessions will be held with Dr. Manuela Stucchi, Psychologist, Psychoanalytic psychotherapist.

Each participant will develop a personal project and each meeting will have a theoretical and practical part.

Silvia Gentili is a multidisciplinary artist, independent curator, and workshop facilitator. Her practice explores stories that belong to the personal and political realm through the use of photography, film, performance, sound, and text.

Her research investigates the concepts of trauma and memory in connection to the body, landscape, and storytelling. Recently, her research has moved into the field of Medical Humanities.

She is vice director of CIDP (Centro Italiano Disturbi di Personalità www.centroclinicocidp.com) and director of MAGMA Hub (www.magmahub.it).
