Desde Otro Suelo is a three-week residency program for artists born in Latin America and the Caribbean, or of direct Latin American descent (parents), who currently live and work in the United States.
The program arises from an interest in creating a space of encounter for artistic practices shaped by experiences of migration, displacement, life across territories, and the multiple forms of belonging that characterize Latin American and Caribbean communities in the United States. Rather than addressing these experiences thematically, Desde Otro Suelo understands them as conditions that shape perspectives, modes of production, affective relationships, and ways of imagining the world. The selection will be made by a specialized committee that will assess the conceptual rigor of the projects, their relevance within the residency framework, and their potential to engage in dialogue with other practices in this shared environment.
The residency offers a dedicated period for artistic production, giving participants time, space, and accompaniment to deepen their working processes. Over three weeks, residents will have access to individual studio spaces, opportunities to dialogue with curators and other contemporary art professionals, and assistance for the development of their projects.
As a project committed to strengthening artistic production in Latin America, Cobertizo seeks to build connections between artists working both within and outside the region, recognizing the importance of Latin American and Caribbean communities that are now part of the cultural fabric of the United States.
