Digital technology is changing the way we think about and make art. The classic image of the artist is no longer representative in an age of virtual and augmented reality art forms โ and even fine artists these days increasingly rely on Instagram and social media to generate awareness about their work. At the same time, new technologies are also changing the way we organize our communities and societies. But where do these changes lead us? Towards a greater sense of connectedness? Or to atomization and fragmentation? These are the questions we look to explore in our PARALLEL Residency.
PARALLEL will foster real-time exchange and collaboration between a total of sixteen artists, via the innovative framework of a dual residency. The residencies will be connected through a common programme and characterized by continual dialogue and exchange between the participants in both countries. PARALLEL presents an opportunity for artistic collaboration across borders and disciplines. The residency will culminate in the live performance and a series of German-Georgian collaborative artworks, which will be presented and curated online.

The residencies will share a common programme, which include 2 online sessions and a 5 day artistsโ retreat. 16 artists will participate in total, eight in each location. The residency will be supported by Art Directors and technical specialists in both locations. Participants will not travel between countries.
PARALLEL is a follow-up to the hybrid a:part project, held in December 2020. www.apartberlinpoltava.net
