At Bankers Hall, we’ve created a studio for artists to work, explore, and bring bold ideas to life. Through this program, artists are given the opportunity to create large-scale works that are exhibited throughout our Downtown Calgary portfolio, enhancing the everyday experience in our city.
Our aim is to empower artists in corporate settings, equip them with soft skills, and provide them with opportunities to commercialize their work.
Studio/Workspace
Currently located on Level 3 in Bankers Hall, the 315 Studio is composed of 4,400+ square feet of open space featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, storage, 12-foot ceilings, and retail-facing display windows. The artist will have 24-hour access to the studio and Wifi.
Please note: The Studio does not permit the use of spray paints, aerosols, use of heat, perfumes, toxic fumes, flammable gases, etc. These materials must be used off-site if necessary for your work.
Duration of Residency
The residency duration is eight (8) months. This time will allow the artist to manage the required paperwork and administration, move in, experiment with their creative practice, prepare for the exhibition, and execute commercialization projects.
The work will be on display for one year within our Brookfield Properties Calgary portfolio (Brookfield Place, Fifth Avenue Place, Suncor Energy Centre, and Bankers Hall), moving locations every 3 months. These conditions are subject to change. Following the tour, regions throughout our global portfolio may choose to profile the work as well.
The artwork created during the 315 Artist in Residence belongs to the artist who created it and is therefore the responsibility of the artist once the contract ends.
Accommodation
Brookfield Properties Calgary offers the artist 24-hour access to the studio. Artists are encouraged to utilize the space to explore their practice and work on personal projects during the residency.
Work Equipment and Assistance
Please utilize your application to indicate what tools, materials, and support you need to complete your program. Through the expertise of our Corporate and Property Teams, the artist will be supported in event management and logistics, legal administration and operations.
Expectations for the Artist
Within the 8-month residency, the artist is expected to create the proposed artwork, lead at least one tenant engagement event (i.e., a workshop, artist talk, or gallery experience), and prepare for the exhibition. Each residency will include a minimum of one commercialization project. Programming can be determined with the Brookfield Properties team once started.
The exhibition tour will be free and accessible to the public. The artwork created will not be defamatory, discriminatory, disrespectful or dangerous in any sense, including but not limited to religious beliefs, identity, or physical form. The artwork created in the residency must consider one or more of our core values: Education, DEI, and Creativity.
Residency: January - August 2026
