Overview

The grassroots music sector is key to developing talent and audiences. Venues, festivals, recording studios, rehearsal spaces and promoters support musicians to hone their craft, test new approaches, develop audiences, and gain crucial experience of live responses to their work. When the grassroots of the music sector is threatened, so is the future health of the UK music industry.

Jointly funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England, the Supporting Grassroots Music (SGM) fund is designed to help secure the sustainability of the grassroots music sector. Eligible projects support the transition of artists, bands and industry professionals to sustainable careers in music, as well as the development of new audiences.

Supporting Grassroots Music aims to have an immediate effect on talent pipelines to the music industry: its focus is on projects that provide direct pathways or progression routes to careers in the grassroots music sector for on-and-off-stage talent, as well as on projects that support the sustainability of the sector as a whole.
