call for design proposals for humboldt gymnasium

The Humboldt Gymnasium will be expanded at its current location with an addition along the Augustinerhof courtyard, and the existing extension will be raised by one story. Simultaneously, the existing building will undergo comprehensive renovation in certain areas. The architectural concept is based on a balanced combination of traditional and contemporary materials and construction methods, on a harmonious interplay of robustness and naturalness. As part of this construction project, an artwork is to be designed for the centrally located stairwell of the extension. The constant movement within the stairwell creates continuously changing viewpoints and perspectives, so that the art is not confined to a fixed vantage point but can be experienced in motion.

The artwork should enhance the school's expansion, while simultaneously addressing and openly interpreting the school's values ​​such as integration, diversity, the evolution of knowledge, the future and transformation, curiosity and critical thinking, and personal responsibility, and engaging in a dialogue with the architecture and the distinctive exposed concrete surfaces of the stairwell.
