Overview

Sacred Volcanoes, Rainforest, Beaches & Lava - 2025 Residency Programs

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, founded in 1916 at the very inception of the Park Service, has hosted numerous painters and writers throughout the years, including Mark Twain, who wrote about his stay at the Volcano House on the rim of Kilauea, as well as modernist legends like Ansel Adams. This otherworldly park has drawn artists from the very beginning of the Park Service’s History. Be inspired by the sacred aura of the Big Island’s revered two volcanoes, as well as the lava flows, lava tubes, and rainforests of Mauna Loa and Kilauea, which have rare endangered species. NPAF’s past artists in residence include Musician and Actor Will Oldham, Composer Byron Yasui, Artist Emma Stibbon, Installation Artist Hasan Elahi, and many others.

NOW is the time to artistically interpret this magnificent world wonder. NPAF is now offering Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park residencies, and close to some of the best beaches on the island. For an approximately one-month term in 2025. The residency includes a $4,000 stipend, FREE HOUSING, a studio, an electronic baby grand piano, sound booth, event(s), and publicity.

*We recommend you apply for this residency as soon as possible. The call for artists for this residency can be canceled at any time without notice*

This residency opportunity is open to Single Artists, Families, Artist Couples, artist collectives, or arts troupes.
