As it did 10 years ago, the SCHWEIZER STROHMUSEUM invites design, art and creative professionals to draw inspiration from the past for new creations of their own. And to this end, it is once again opening up its collection.
A wealth of imaginative weaving patterns, delicate decorative objects and exclusive hat models bear witness to the once flourishing hat weaving industry in Freiamt. In a competition, we are looking for diverse design ideas for reinterpreting the old techniques and objects.
Your creativity and innovation are called for: How can the museum's treasures be reinterpreted? What new uses could they be put to? Are there shapes that remind you of things today? Do you find patterns that seem timelessly beautiful and unexpectedly modern? Do you discover techniques that can be used to make contemporary products?
Focus on a single product or a specific processing technique. Describe and analyze it and make a proposal as to what new applications the product or technique could find. You are free to implement your idea: whether it becomes a piece of furniture, a utility item, a piece of jewelry or a textile - the decision is up to you. There are also no limits to your creativity when it comes to the choice of materials. The products do not have to be made of straw or wickerwork.
