The Paul Robeson Galleries (PRG) is pleased to announce the open call of our Artist in Residence (AiR). The residency is located at an initiative known as Express Newark (EN), part of Rutgers University – Newark (located in the former Hahne Department Store). This residency will be dedicated to a visual artist (defined in the broadest sense). A Sci-Artist is someone whose artwork engages with the world of science, either through subject matter, choice of materials or techniques, and can include work about ecology and environmentalism.
- Expectation is that the artist will spend a minimum of 15 hours per week in the studio.
- Artists will receive Rutgers University ID card, and have free access to Adobe Creative Suite, Rutgers Libraries and databases, and recreational facilities on campus.
- The residency will occur from September 2025 - August 2026.
- No housing is provided.
- During the residency, the artist will be expected to participate in the life of PRG through hosting at least one open studio, participating in one critique of student work and at least one public program (for example, an artist talk)
- The artist must also be available for about up to five hours of studio visits with groups organized through the PRG education program during their residency.
