Kipaipai Workshops, in partnership with Joshua Tree Center for Photographic Arts, announces an artist residency in Joshua Tree, California. This residency is open to English speaking established photographic artists seeking immersion in the extraordinary Mojave Desert.
One artist will be chosen for a three week residency taking place in Fall 2022. This residency offers one artist a respite from their daily life and regular studio practice for introspection, research, conceptualizing, and creation of photo-based work about the unique, iconic and threatened Joshua tree and their fragile ecosystems. Artwork produced during and after the residency will be considered for the exhibition "Survival of the Joshua Tree" (working titled) at the Museum of Art and History (MOAH) in Lancaster, CA opening September 2024.
The artist will be housed in a private and quiet one bedroom home with additional studio room in North Joshua Tree, 4 miles from Joshua Tree Village and 10 miles from National Park entrance. (Car is a must, no children, no pets, no smoking, vegetarian cooking only in the house.) The artist-in-residence is responsible for their own travel expenses, food, materials and other expenses. Wifi is provided. Computer labs, printers and darkrooms are not provided. A modest honorarium may be provided depending on the proposed project. Your spouse or partner may join you if they are relevant to your studio practice - please explain in your proposal.
