New work

This is an on-going project that started 4 years ago, when I moved to a new country. As I met new people, I asked them if I could go to where they live and take their picture. When I got there, I instinctively took over and moved things in order to make it look the way I wanted. I wanted to show something in them, in that moment, that I could identify with.

Pictures of People in Rooms

When my Grandmother died we found an envelope full of 6×9 cm negatives and contact prints. The pictures were taken by my Grandfather in Israel and North Africa whilst serving in the Royal Air Force during World War Two. He was an Armourer; it was his job to load ammunition and bombs onto the aircrafts. One of his duties was called ‘crashed aircraft recovery’ where they would remove any live ammunition and make the wreckage safe. It was therefore the responsibility of his squadron to retrieve the bodies of allied and enemy soldiers from the crashed aircrafts.

After the war, he returned to his pre-war occupation as a bricklayer and started a family. No one in the family were aware of these pictures until after he died nor do they remember seeing him take another.
