My appreciation for ceramic art grew after taking my first hand-building workshop in Lisbon, Portugal in 2021. Subsequently, the process of hand-building became a key element of a holistic healing process. My training in ceramic art is self-driven supported by various workshops and public resources. Most of my work is inspired by personal encounters living as an expat, and the journey of self-discovery that accompanies this experience. I continue to be surprised by the direction I take in life, and value the depth in which I am forced to seek out answers through the process of hand-building and working with clay.
My practice in ceramic art explores the conditions of life that require a willingness to be guided by the individual within us, allowing an intermingling of our conscious and spirit with what we encounter externally. By starting with our own experiences, we can begin to understand what it means to be part of society, and start to seek answers to larger questions. While my work is an aggregation of my personal stories, they are universal experiences, and speak to observers in their own ways, inspiring them to reflect on their self-discovery. I invite my audiences to be part of this dialogue through my art.
