ABSENCE - #UNSEEN

The proposed works would have been part of a personal exhibition by Alessio Guano organized by atelier97 arte contemporanea, scheduled for March 2020 titled "I'LL NEVER FORGET MY FIRST PAINTING". 

Due to the restrictions of Covid-19 and the subsequent closure of the exhibition spaces, galleries and museums in Italy, also atelier97, independent space for contemporary art, had to close and it was not possible to welcome visitors who could enjoy the works and speak with the artist too. 

These works proposed for UNSEEN open call by artconnect are mixed techniques on paper measuring 40x30cm, created by the artist in the early months of 2020. The works are all mixed techniques on paper, unique pieces made with acrylic, oil, spray and collage.

ABSENCE is the new title of the scheduled exhibition. This new title was given by the artist in occasion of the closure and social distancing necessary to limit the virus on national territory. 
It is precisely from these works, with the emblematic title, that the artist later made a series of paintings during his quarantine period which, unfortunately, is still continuing, although there are openings and hopes for new freedoms.

BAD POETRY is a collection of visual works in which the traditional compositional procedures are placed on a new level, where the interpretation of reality takes over. The word has more importance in these compositions than in any other work previously made by Guano. The artist responds to the need to highlight the contradictions of the new technological era, the daily needs and socio-economic imbalances of the new millennium, creating a sign of its passage with few tools such as recycled paper, spray paint and aluminium self-adhesive sheets. Without resorting to pictorial illusions or metaphors, Guano puts on the level of composition the very meaning of the terms we commonly use, trying to analyse the complexity of the relationship between verbal and visual communication and therefore the human interaction too.

This digital collection contains some of the works created by Alessio Guano between the end of 2020 and January 2021. The works collected here are almost all made with digital techniques and finished by hand.



RECENT WORKS

The small cycle of works titled LABIRINTO is part of Alessio Guano's artistic research from the post-pandemic period until December 2020. The works are created with various techniques, mostly with acrylics, enamel, ink and watercolor on paper or cardboard. Those proposed here on artconnect are made in 30x21cm format.

What is a maze for you?

The generic term of labyrinth derives from the Greek name labýrinthos (λαβύρινθος), used in mythology to indicate the labyrinth of Knossos. In my works some traces of the mythological labyrinths emerge from the shadows and, here and there, flashes of light come out - the paper still remained white and undyed -
For me, black does not have a dark and sad meaning, but the acròme par excellence is a symbol of reflection, pause and balance. For this reason I often use black, in its infinite pictorial variations.
Building these labyrinths means for me looking for balance and a way to go, which does not necessarily lead to an exit, but rather to growth or to deepen themes lost over time. Labyrinths are moments of introspection and self-reflection.

I am pleased to announce, after months from the start, the online exhibition DIALOGS2020 CONTEMPORARY CONNECTION dedicated to the first major chapter of the international art project born in 2018, with the collaboration of artists from all over the world. After months of pause we can now announce an important resumption for the activities of the digital space atelier97 arte contemporanea. This exhibition, currently presented in digital format on Behance, Facebook and on Instagram, will be carried out live as soon as there are all the possibilities to guarantee a large audience to participate in complete safety. The works presented are the most varied, all of high quality and high interest. 

DIALOGS2019 CONTEMPORARY CONNECTION is an international project by Alessio Guano that involves contemporary artists, each of whom has distinctive and separate practices, and who shows here works together for the first time. The collection, which counts works from almost all over the world, contains a world in itself.

Alessio Guano has gathered, within a year or something more, a sufficient number of artists to give the public the opportunity to discover more varied techniques, materials, themes and colors. The several interviews published online give us the opportunity to learn more about each participant, discovering curious anecdotes, their private lives and the typical day of an all-round artist.

The exhibition offers the public a wide and impressive journey into the contemporary artistic vision through paintings, drawings and mixed media artworks.
