In February/March i was a part of BLANK’s second and most recent exhibition. The title was “HAPPY HOUR” and was shown in the gallery ‘Rendez Vous’, Mejlgade in Aarhus (DK). The exhibition consisted of our individual interpretations of the concept “HAPPY HOUR”. A sense of meaninglessness in the middle of ecstasy, a hint of melancholy in the middle of celebrating consumption – or a quest for something real in the glossy reality culture. We are all fascinated of partying with famous people and drinking bad vodka at a trashy toilet. It is poor and low class, but this is where the blurry hearts beats and true dreams really exist. It is here where things are allowed to decay, instead of constantly being replaced.
I decided to make two real looking drunk teenage couples – two girls and two boys of some of my friends Oline and Rune. And a connection between them by framing an egg from a woman and some sperm from a man. This is theoretically what it takes to make a new human being. The sperm and the menstrual blood are from Rune and Oline themselves. This work was indented to link all my works in HAPPY HOUR together, and conclude on the idea::::: these very drunk, over stimulated and paltry existences is capable of placing another human being on this earth. My idea was to shed light on this specific point of view, which just sees life as the feeling you have after a happy hour. And the possibility of, that these miserable lives can be maintained in society. My installation, in this case, is sort of the ‘result’ of an HAPPY HOUR, which doesn’t focus or show any fun or socializing about a happy hour, but only expresses the downsides. My idea was to make a trusted depiction of reality, so the viewer is confronted with the reality she or he may live in. In my works I like to get as close to reality as I can get and their clothes is also something I get from the people themselves.

HAPPY HOUR

I am a part of an Aarhus-based art group from Denmark consisting of 14 young people between 18 and 24 years old, called projektBLANK. We moves outside the established art scene, and work individually with painting, sculpture, photography, installation and video art.

In November 2011 we held our first exhibition, where we tried to give an insight into our generation – the youth. A generation that institutions will monitor and take care of. A generation that the media and experts will define and pin down - but a generation that constantly seeks to define itself. The exhibition was shown at the gallery ‘A Working Gallery’ at the port of Aarhus (DK).

In this exhibition I made three installations of my little sister Liva at BLANK’s first exhibition. My idea was to get a reaction from the viewer, whether the person is eight years old as Liva herself, or a 45 years old parent – I wanted to make something everyone could react to and could provoke a response from the viewer. In addition to that I took photos of Liva with the same clothes on, and placed them next to the installations. The clothes is Liva’s own.
