from the invention of gunpowder in the year 1000 dc. in china, the paradox of alfred nobel, the inventor of nitroglycerin, to the formula discovered by einstein e=mc2 from which the atomic bomb was developed, we have seen hundreds of possible forms of explosions.

the installation includes a magnetophone and a sound system. a loop of five minutes is mounted in a self-supporting structure. in the loop one can hear the construction of a hand made bomb. this disposition transmits the idea of an assembly line, emulating military production as opposed to hand made bombs making

the reproductive system

this video was part of an exhibition realized during the residency “escritorio de procesos”, in mexicali, mexico. for this propose were created several exercises in relation with the desert and the state of emergency. starting from the idea that in this environment the sense of orientation is often lost and being the place very hostile, it is highly likely that we die trying to get out of it. emergency situations and acts were thought and executed, such as ways of communicating or trying to survive. then all this material was gathered and it was set up as a sort of expanded documentary of the experience.

not die in the attempt

“ehhh!!!” it’s a super 8 film about parking light banners in Buenos Aires city. it’s a camera edited film and the image overlap was generated because of a delay between two projectors. it aims at being a reflection about audiovisual contamination in big cities.

“ice screen” tried to be, on one hand, the moment in which we are staring at something and our thoughts start travelling in a different way, like when we get kind of hypnotized when looking at fire. and, on the other hand, it tried to be a moment of alert, reminding us of the speed in which we communicate when we don´t stop to observe.
 
the installation was created using an ice screen (4:3) which was melting throughout the day. the composition´s changes of state were generated in real time by the melting-ice´s drops using a piezoelectric sensor and a pure data algorithm. at the same time, the composition transitioned between blue and red, depending on the viewer´s proximity to the ice screen, which was also detected by an electronic sensor (infrared).


ICE SCREEN



Flaking off means when something starts to break down and to be fragmented, like the paint of an old wall. As an analogy that our things are not infinite, all around us have a lifetime, and there are a lot of facts affecting all entities constantly.   

This project focuses on how we conserve audiovisual information. Since the invention of photography, we have started to keep memories in different kinds of formats. After photography, hundreds of formats and media were developed to reproduce and keep all this information. Today most of these analog formats are obsolete and we don't give much importance to them because we are living in a digital age, and a lot of these formats are stored in basements and attics, others were dumped and others can be bought at flea markets. Meanwhile, all of this information might be disappearing by the action of the force of nature without us noticing. 

It's not strange that bacterias and mushrooms like eating film. This material is composed of an edible jelly, like the ones that laboratories use to cultivate. A lot of films are being eaten by these. Archivists and researchers are alarmed, we could lose a lot of analog visual information. Since the cold war, Hollywood's movies are kept in big antinuclear storage called Iron Mountain Inc. We can keep our analog information in digital formats as well but, what happens if the cloud disappears because of a change in the magnetic pole of planet Earth caused by a solar storm?. Will some of our visual records remain on earth when we cease to exist? How much time will be perduring our visual archive?.
