From April 17 to May 7, Qubit will transform a former Santander Bank branch at 172 East 4th Street into “The East Village Community Unwellness Center”. The Unwellness Center will examine the interstices of the supposedly restorative qualities of contemporary health and wellness trends with the destructive forces of corporate capitalism, digital dystopia, body-image paranoia and ecological decay. By launching our own treatments, classes and salable products, The Unwellness Center will highlight elements of the relationships between the repackaging of generic drugs as newly effective solutions, the personalized “supplements” racket, and the fitness industrial-complex as they fall within the frame of Millennial-oriented marketing and design strategies. Submitted work can add to these concepts, take them further, or simply relate to them in their own unique ways.
We seek work that will harness aspects of these outwardly beneficent forces and push them further, amplifying their timeless, predatory marketing strategies into the domain of the poignant and the absurd. Proposals are welcomed for work in any medium, including film/media art, painting, sculpture, performance art, sound installations, text, or any combination of the above.
Please email proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org. In your email include:
