This work deals with the concept of freedom, which is often used in rhetoric of democracy. I think that in such use it is a misleading - freedom as an idea could make more sense in personal use as something that needs to be continiually redefined. The black flag as a symbol is most commonly used by anarchists, whose ideal would be to live by one´s own personal laws. By burning the flag I refer to the idea that personal laws could also be seen as a constant process not as something rigid. I think that for society understanding is more useful concept.
Twelwe barriers in my installation refer to the EU and to the idea that the personal freedom exists only in secured territory. This area protects itself also from outsiders to some extent.

Photography Work for Theatre

Vabaduse mägi” (“Mountain of Liberty”) is continuous and open experiment in internet which deals with notions of nationality, visibility and freedom. 
By inserting virtually relatively absurd object into important public spaces I want to bring out the possibilities of using the existing environments (i.e. Google Earth) a bit differently.
According to study “Freedom on the net” from Freedom House Estonia holds the first place in 37 country list. 
With the experiment I try to find out what could this freedom contain. 
The mountain is covered by estonian and its neighbouring countries pre-national and also newer patterns. The older patterns origin from non-national and non-historical past. Nationality needs always its constructions and now these patterns are used to strenghten national identity. 
With this work im referring also to expansionistic background of national cultures. I am using my freedom in net to virtually conquer the other countries significant public spaces. 
In “6 minutes of Liberty” I have published the website in 6 minutes, every minute one place. This refers to short attention in the use of internet. 
Im depending on images released into public domain and existing environment (Google Earth) and try to use it as an open public platform.

Installation gives exhibitions guests an opportunity to intervene directly. I think that in gallery presented works should not always stay completed. This work is also a comment to political action with Russian War Memorial in center of Tallinn.

I shot this video on the 1st of may in Berlin and it shows antifascist-minded youth who are planning to interfere in a neonazi demonstration without knowing where it is held.
What I am trying to show here is that antifascist movement is mostly comprised of young people who just want to do something without having clear political agenda behind it. 
Alternatively, it can be seen as a temporary breakout from the individualized and normalized everyday life created by modern capitalism.

Warm up

Don´t be evil is an experiment based on connections between public space in Tallinn and its virtual representation. It is nothing new that in Tallinn, city space is very controlled and organized and if you want to go by the law you can only spread information via expensive private billboards. By default, we all expect urban spaces to be something which we consume but not contribute to or add something of our own.

Don´t be evil is a form of virtual actionism where we try to recounquer urban space as a public platform for exchange and participation.

Similar to Google’s strategy to capture images for Google Street View, we create our own version of the streets of Tallinn, adding new public spaces and areas in post-processing. Images of Tallinn are modified in a way that all advertisments are removed and replaced by white spaces. Visitors of the installation are invited to draw or write on these empty spaces with the means of a laser-tagging system, allowing them to redefine public space as a space for communication and exchange and not only a space for the advertisement of consumption.

"Don't be evil" is an unofficial slogan of Google Inc., proposed by one of its lead engineers Paul Buchheit. It is a part of Google's corporate policy, which has the leitmotif that it should be possible to make (lots of) money without doing (much) evil.
