There is a living world behind

“Short essay on uncertainty” is a shadow theatre play, which had it’s premiere in 2019. I propose to play this show at your festival, at the second space that you proposed ( at Kamerna Sala) , which seems very suitable for a small public and dark enough for a shadow play. 

A main idea of the show and a "sketch" has been presented last year, at Festival Incanti in Torino, after which has been chosen to be  constructed with the tutorship of Alberto Jona, artistic director of the festival, and member of the company "Teatro controluce".
I have been building the show after this presentation during the year 2019, and presented parts of it after Torino in Parma, in March, and in Pinerolo, at puppet festivals.
The premiere has been in October, 2019 at the same festival, Festival Incanti, where i received a special prize for the quality of image and sound.
The idea of the show, "Short essay on uncertainty", was born with the desire of creating a puppet play, using some basic ideas of Thomas Mann, that raise at least questions in us, if not answers, related to the "individual" and community, culture and personal history, as a critical approach. This critical approach in his short story "Mario and the magician", helped me to put the accent of my show on individual responsibility versus a community, that under the pressure of a culture, is capable to behave in a way, in which an individual would never do.
I have chosen to build a small stage, like the paper theaters made for children in the 18-19th century, and present paintings in front of a light source, to tell my story. The paintings have been made on plastic with acrylic and glue. I have kept an abstract artistic language in the first part of the show, so it leaves space for a personal interpretation. The black and white images are telling us a story with the rhythm of the storytellers, using a single image for their story, but this one is a non - verbal show. I have been recording sounds, creating a collection of field - recordings, during the year 2019 and built the soundtrack for the show with sounds that are describing an atmosphere but not using words. This way, paintings and sounds recorded in 4 countries, try to tell a story, which is not an easy one, concentrating on Thomas Mann's question: do we have free will? are we acting according to our own will? is a person who dares to question our convictions, guilty? What is human sin and who is a sinner? What can we do with these questions in the 21th century? I consider that being aware is more than enough.
