PLASMATIC is an audiovisual holographic installation. It is an experimental simulation of the interworkings of a Molecular Beam Epitaxy Machine, where new elements are created through science that mother nature has not yet presented.

PLASMATIC is part of an interdisciplinary exchange project between artist Sadie Weis and research scientists working at Paul-Drude-Institut für Festkörperelektronik (PDI) in collaboration with Leibniz ScienceCampus GraFOx as a tandem between scientific research and artistic investigation through a shared sense of wonder and quest for knowledge. Weis had the unique opportunity to join and observe scientists in the context of their lab at PDI working on the synthesis and physical characterization of crystals beyond those developed by nature through a distinctive process called Molecular Beam Epitaxy(MBE). This device inspiring research is used as a means to discover the ultimate materials to further the potential of sustainable energy transfer and our technological future.



PLASMATIC

'Back in the Paradox' was inspired by the birth of a new collaboration started with an astrophysicist in Berlin. The inception of our project morphed due to Covid-19, so we exchanged ideas and concepts via email instead. My sheer visions of what I thought I might learn from the scientist in person about concepts such as the multiverse and parallel dimensions have instead been transferred through my imagination into the painting.

Back in the Paradox

'The Vessel in the Void and the Holy Self' is a light installation project created during a meditative exploration of supernatural energy/ imagery  and boundaries of materials, light and form.  It was created with readily accessibly everyday objects in an attempt to tranform then into the Phantasmagorical. It was created with neon tubing, silicon, natural crystals, gems, sparklers, tinsel, feathers, various found relics, stone pipe stems, sewing needles, nylon sticks, silly pup, plastic glitter ball, nails, pins, glitter, razors, and patience.
