The Big Bean that landed on Earth

The big bean has fallen on earth. It has grown, it has slowly risen through clouds. So slowly that it has been impossible to detect its movement. So inconceivably big that nobody has managed to seize its shape.

The big bean has been left on its own. Too big, too slow, as if it were invisible.

It is mute because it doesn't have a story, or, actually, it doesn't have anyone that can tell its story.

The changes of a territory affect in the first place its inhabitants. A region, a city, is not only constituted by objective facts like conformation, peculiarity of the area , infrastructures and architectures… every place gains “meaning” as such space that contains the experiences of the people that are living there, their memories (connected to the place), their daily routine (related to the place today/ how they perceive themselves in relation to the place they inhabit) and the way that they can imagine the place projected in the future (if and in which way the place will change)

The work-shop intends to invite the citizens of Byala to share the experiences of the place where they live in the following ways:

3 felt pens, different colours: brown (today) / green (the past) /
orange (the future)

The invitation addressed to the inhabitants is to leave a “sign” on the empty map, as an answer to the following questions:

FIRST QUESTION_ a place that exists

Can you point out a place of Byala (or of the surrounding area) that is important/has a value to you? And why?

SECOND QUESTION_ the memory of a place

Can you point out a place of Byala (or of the surrounding area) that does not exist any longer, but that has a special meaning/ importance to you? And why?

THIRD QUESTION_ a projection into the future

How do you imagine Byala in the future? what will be different? what will vanish? what will be added?

The map will be composed of three "layers" corresponding to different moments, visualized through the colors. In the map are overlapped: a city that is existing only in the memory of who is describing it (green), the city of today described through the experiences of the people that are living there (brown) and how the citizens image the developments and the changes of the city in the future (orange).

Out of Place_an ongoing archive

Out of Place_an ongoing archive is an open and continuously upgradable archive, which was established with the aim of providing an overview of the widest possible range of theoretical references and ideas concerning the concept of nomadism in relation to the forms of contemporary artistic production.
The installation contains around fifty documents sent by artists, critics and curators who have made their contribution to the first corpus of the archive.
Behind the project is the idea that being out of place is the condition which enables a person to continuously reposition himself in one place. This process, not only physical, it is necessary to build the constantly changing sense of our presence in the space.
The visitors will be asked to contribute actively to the construction of the archive by participating directly in the cataloging and indexing of the various contributions present in Out of Place. In this way, as a guest desired, the archive will find its temporary location within ArtVerona.

GENERATION: Exploring new dynamics between generations in Europe. (An ECF pilot project)

How can different generations come together, outside more formal working relationships, to address some of the issues facing our aging European societies including the growing gap between generations?

Originally initiated by a group of women working in the European cultural sector, GENERATION is an ECF pilot project, using arts methodology to open up new spaces for inter-generational conversation between those working in similar contexts.

Focused on the notion of Turning Points, GENERATION offers the opportunity to reflect on professional challenges and wider societal issues through the mirror of personal stories: exploring the possibility of triggering social and political change through creative confrontation.

Stage Two will see 4 further pilot projects, exploring similar themes of Women, Europe and Culture, taking place across Europe. Although GENERATION meetings are initially aimed at women, the project hopes to integrate a broader gender perspective at a later stage, leading to the development of new networks of mutual learning, open communication and solidarity between generations. The outcomes of these 4 pilot meetings will be evaluated In September 2012 to pave the way for further development.

HOLIDAYS IN GREECE in Kassel on MS IM-PORT//EX-PORT_A Floating Platform for Art & Science_School of Art and University of Kassel. HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is a performative installation that took place in May 2012 in Berlin. HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is conceived and realised by STUDIOvisits, Berlin, a project of encounters taken in random intervals between artists, theorists, architects and the public.

WALK WITH THE ARTIST:
Walk with the artist is a program of author itineraries that combine the idea of tour, walk, open air workshop, interview to the artist and urban intervention. Artists have been asked to present a free proposal of walk in Berlin in order to walk the partecipants into the discovery and experience of the urban space.

"One of my favorite places in Berlin has always been the square of Rosenthaler Platz. Since I moved to Berlin I have always lived nearby this square. But the place that I liked so much no longer exists except in my memory. The walk begins from this specific place to search for traces of the recent history of Berlin, pointing to displaced monuments, and disappeared places, through forgetfulness, removal, and stratification in the quarter Mitte."  Rebecca.

The tour of Rebecca is not exactly a tour of monuments. It 'a tour of places (in the broad sense) disappeared, or that are disappearing in the quarter Mitte. It 'a kind of search of traces of the recent history of the city. It 's true that on the path of the tour you will encounter a couple of monuments, but what is told about the monuments are stories not really well known, and they have more to do with the dynamics of memory and the "construction" of memory that constantly act, focusing on the fact that it is the context (the discourse) that somehow gives meaning, meaning that can change and be re-written anytime.

displaced monuments and disappeared places

Disappeared places, abandoned or unfinished buildings in Sicily are the theme of the open workshop. Participants will be asked to choose a place which belongs to one of those categories and then paint it on a piece of wood with acrylic colors. The attempt is to make a portrait of the region starting from places that no longer exist or are no longer accessible. The result will be a map of the territory based on the memories of the people involved.

“Out of Place_an ongoing archive” ist ein offenes und kontinuierlich aktualisierbares Archiv, welches mit dem Ziel erstellt wurde, einen Überblick über die größtmögliche Bandbreite an theroetischen Referenzen und Ideen zum Konzept des Nomadismus in Beziehung zu zeitgenössischen künstlerischen Produktionen zu geben. 
Hinter dem Projekt steht die Idee, daß deplatziert zu sein die Bedingung, ist die es einer Person ermöglicht sich kontinuierlich an einem Ort zu repositionieren. Dieser Prozess ist, nicht nur im physischen Sinn, notwendig, um die sich stetig wandelnde Wahrnehmung unserer Präsenz im Raum zu ermöglichen.
Die Installation beinhaltet ca. fünfzig Dokumente, beigesteuert von Künstler_innen, Kritiker_innen und Kurator_innen. Der erste Teil des Archivs wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Sektion Independents3 der Kunstmesse ArtVerona in Italien gezeigt.
Die Besucher_innen werden aufgefordert zur nochmaligen Konstruktion des Archivs beizutragen, indem sie sich direkt am Indexieren und an der Katalogisierung der verschiedenen Beiträge von Out of Place beteiligen. Auf diese Weise wird das Archiv, als willkommener Gast, einen temporären Standort in CORPO 6 finden.

No drawing skills are required, the format of the drawing is the one of a postcard, and everyone is free to draw with the technique they prefer...

„Name a place, that meant something to you and that doesn’t exist as this anymore!“ asks Rebecca and my first answer is: „There are so many! Almost the whole city consists of places that don’t exist anymore and most of the places that meant something to me belong to them.“ Not just because as most of the berliners I moved countless times and I left such a meaningful place with every flat I gave up. But first of all because it seems as if  the only constant of the last 2 decades in this city was its changing. 
Ongoing change is a beautiful thing about living in a big city and for a long time contrary to the naggers and nostalgists I’ve been secretly happy and curious when houses were restored or built anew and when businesses opened. I like to watch the alteration and to marvel at how much constructional change affects the impact of a place. I’ve been enthusiastic when shops opened where there hadn’t been any before. I always found the impulse of conserving old things suspicious and particularly boring. 
Maybe this is due to my childhood. The first decade of my life nothing ever changed in the cityscape, apart from the permanent flaking of color of the facades that turned grey a long time before. There was Nothing that I wished for more than for the complete cleansing of the grey facades, especially the one our flat laid behind. Today this wish seems more than odd to me and it can be explained just this way: One can have too much of everything. Today I drool over every grey facade and I appreciate the beauty of this materialized history and decay just as once I’ve been beset by the inevitable impression of time at work and the depressing mood generated by the architectural standstill. And today I am bored by the predictability of the alteration and by the attempt to conserve those parts of the cityscape which have been labeled as worth it. The facades are long spick and span, almost all gaps between buildings are filled. But the meanings of these places keep changing, their accessibility changes with their functions and with the audiences that are addressed. They haven’t ceased to exist for me with their restoration but with their new-occupation. Bars become lounges, clubs become fashion boutiques, rented flats become freehold flats and gaps become hotels. 
Will anybody believe me in ten years’ time that during the nineties Kollwitz-Platz in Prenzlauer Berg has been the place where the riots of the first of may used to start or that Mitte has been crawled with occupied houses and illegal bars and clubs, and none of them except Tacheles had been discovered by tourists yet?
„Ask me for places that mean something to me and that are still existing!“ I ask Rebecca and I immediately catch one: The tv-tower still exists.



Other places that don’t exist any longer

"a rendezvous in Berlin" is not an exhibition but a project, originated from conversations between artists who temporarily participated to a path, or who share an aptitude and common interests. Limit, margin, border and incorrectness are the key words from which the works that will compose the visual space of the show arised. The word, used in its effective actuality vis-a-vis the real, is the vehicle that linked the different works. A word embodied in an act of revolt becomes an engraving on stone in “DIES IRAE”. Or it sunders into different characters who try to re-enact an opaque moment of Italian history, in “On the ripening of times”, where the relation between language and violence is investigated. A violence that we can find in other forms in the obviousness of everyday life, in the instances that convey exclusion and the definition of a norm, in “Geschwister”. In “The Absent Collector” the accidental finding of a collection of letters becomes a subjective interpretation, in an attempt to reconstruct the relations that occurred between the sender and the recipient of the missives. Family values are analyzed in “LOVE”, where husband and wife wonder about the real meaning of the expression I love you. A background buzz that comes from a distant place can become the meeting point among the works, the artist and the public, with “Stealing Sunlight”, where traces and fragments of different experiences are mapped on tape.
