Suspended Ink Objects
Escaping from the restrictive nature of the support materials (paper/canvas), the ink/paint recovers its freedom and, with the shadow, its soul. The artist joins the scientist and through numerous experiments creates an observation object. Once the process has its fixed parameters (dimensions, materials, colors), the ink/paint gets its moment of freedom and, within its own little circle, it evolves without restriction or control. The ordered representation is only to contrast with this great moment of freedom, eliminating a possible figurative interpretation of the patterns.
Once finished, the object becomes alive only through light on which it is entirely dependent. This last but most important variable can change the shadow of the object connecting the physical world to an esoteric world, worlds that are intrinsically related and mirror each other. Thus, the scientist’s laboratory and the artist’s studio seem one and the same, a place for infinite inquiry alternating from one realm to the other.
Those objects belong in a “cabinet of curiosities”, most probably in the inexplicable items section (mirabilia), and they are attempting to reflect the standard of knowledge and view of the world of the artist at the time. The hope is to promote transparency, unity, and most importantly a desire to learn, a desire to move the puppeteers’ objects from behind our backs right in front where we can compare the object to its shadow and understand it as a whole.
