Carlos Silva presents his new series Colourtecture. The series of ink paintings are created using a modular system in their format, media and technic. The main module of 50 x 50 cm is built up by individual blocks using a 10 cm wide brush. This structure creates a chromatic and colourful effect within the paintings that continues throughout each format.
Every stroke can be reduced to a modular set of building blocks. These blocks build up on top of each other or are attached from the side, replicating an urban environment and its continuous change. The colour combinations and their gradients accentuate this pattern of change.
The modules combine both vertical and horizontal aesthetics, which are interchangeable depending on the current environment. Within the series are two large colour wheels, that create a chromatic tunnel when paired opposite one another. When viewed within one space, the full series plays with digital and analogue languages through its impact of colour and abstracted illusion of the eye.
