My artwork seems to be representing reality, but is in fact mostly the result of a process of construction. I usually use different reference photos and mix up their elements in order to create my paintings. Therefore my realism is not just meant to show what is there, but on top of that contains philosophical, psychological and sometimes fantastical dimensions, which the observer is invited to reflect upon. My works focus on the topics of individuality, isolation, perception and personal experience. The rear view figures have a double function - on the one hand they allow for identification, on the other hand they are an object of speculation for the observer of my paintings.
