Overview

The ZKM | As part of its “Sonic Experiments” artist-in-residence program, Hertz-Labor awards scholarships to composers specializing in electronic music and sound art.

The ZKM | Hertz-Labor offers five international composers and artists from Creative Europe countries the opportunity to apply in three different categories/genres and to submit project proposals for the realization of a new work without a visa requirement. All works can be designed audiovisually. Selectable categories/genres include:

  • Analog synthesizer
  • Experimental spatial pop
  • AI & Sensors

The following implementation and presentation modes are available for all three categories:

  • Composition for live electronics
  • Mixed Music (acoustic instruments combined with electronics)
  • Experimental performance with prominent electronic music or sound components
  • Live coding
  • Acousmatics
  • Fixed media

For multi-channel acousmatic or audiovisual fixed media works that use spatial sound as a design tool and are designed for performance in the ZKM_Klangdom , the free spatialization software “ Zirkonium ” developed at the ZKM can optionally be used. For compositions in the AI & Sensors category, we provide a tracking system based on LiDAR technology to determine movement and position data. Other sensor technologies can also be used, but you must bring them with you.
