One step to metamorphosis... Let's enjoy chaos!
*release exercises, inspired by Noguchi Taiso (Gymnastics), Taichi and Hatha Yoga
*dynamic training for the flow of energy
*Butoh-related work to activate our universal memories
(sensitization, combination of image and movement with antenna exercises such as figure of 8, water ball, animal, insect, snake, witch and fairy, the creatures inside us, hanging body, walking, dialogue with a partner etc)
*structured improvisation, free association
Objectives: To obtain a higher level of concentration, and activate potential energy within us, combining imagery and body function. Relaxation lets energy flow. Concentration collects the power in our centre. Imagination combines different elements: Through a dialogue with our body, we learn not how to move, but to be moved. Consequently we realize that we are a part of a universal wholeness.
Yumiko Yoshioka was Born in Tokyo, living in Germany since 1988. She founded an art-formation groupe "TEN PEN CHii art labor"
in 1995 with a visual artist, Joachim Manger from Germany and a musician, Zam Johnson from USA. It's a resident group at
Schloss Broellin (Castle of Broellin), International Theater Research Location, which lies in the utmost northeastern part of the ex East Germany.
She has been in research of an interactivity between dance and installation with her partner. They created a number of works, such as "N. YOiN", "DA-PPi", "i-ki",or "Test Labor", each of which won the highest praise in experimental art scenes.
Besides international tours throughout Europe and North America, she is an art director of the Butoh Festival"Ex...it!" with Delta Ra'i, held at Schloss Broellin every 4 years since 1995.
In the early seventies and eighties, she was a member of the first Japanese women's Butoh dance theater, ARIADONE. In 1978, she performed with Ko Murobushi and Carlotta Ikeda in "Le Dernier Eden", Europe's first Butoh performance in Paris. From 1988 to 1994, she was an active member of German-Japanese dance theatre group "tatoeba-THEATRE DANSE GROTESQUE" with Minako Seki and Delta Ra'i, touring in Japan, Europe and North America.
The venue - Monkton Wyld Court, education centre for sustainable living - is a large country house and grounds in an idyllic location in Dorset.
Monkton Wyld Court is located in the hamlet of Monkton Wyld, amidst the rolling hills of Dorset and within walking distance of the stunning Jurassic coast. The main building is a charming Grade II listed rectory built in 1848 as an early Victorian example of neo-Gothic architecture inspired by Pugin. The house accommodates up to 35 visitors in two- to six-bedded rooms. The communal areas, offering period features and wonderful panoramic views of the countryside, are heated by wood-burning stoves. There is a hall with stage and sprung dance floor, a beautiful sitting room with grand piano, an outdoor area with fire-pit, kitchen and classroom, a small but fully-licensed pub and a shop selling chocolate, wine, postcards, natural toiletries and other essentials. The eclectic and well-stocked library is also available by arrangement.
The grounds of Monkton Wyld Court include terraced lawns, a small wood, an orchard, fields leading down to a stream and an inspiring Victorian walled vegetable garden. Water comes from the own wells and is processed through the reedbed filtration system. Solar energy is used as much as possible.
Facilities for participants of the workshop: Visitors’ Dining Room, the Pine Hall; dance studio with wooden floor, terraces and gardens. Wi-Fi available in two communal ground floor rooms. Tiny licensed pub with stocks of Branscombe Vale beer. Small shop with Fairtrade wine, juice, chocolate, toothpaste and other toiletries.
