Mac Cana uses video and multimedia installation to explore themes of the everyday imbued with a deeper personal significance. A sudden sense of loss and identity are key within the works, as he explores both physical and psychological boundaries. His worlds are of a stronger gravity, set in non-picturesque landscapes, sparse and selective with objects and figures.
Mac Cana was included in PLATFORM 2019, an emerging artist group show at the Draíocht Art Gallery, Dublin, following solo exhibitions in Belfast with PS2 Project Space (Dec 2017), Crescent Art Gallery, (March 2018) and Artcetera (April 2019). Mac Cana received a Travel Award from the ACNI to take part in the TongLau A.I.R programme, Hong Kong, October 2019. Whilst there, Mac Cana presented his first one man international exhibition, Revisit, at Floating Projects, Hong Kong. Mac Cana has been selected for numerous film festivals;
Pillow: South London Shorts, Athens International Film & Video Festival, USA, and Leiden International Short Film Experience, Netherlands in 2018.
Removal: Offline Film Festival and Underground Cinema, Ireland in 2019.
