A Room of One's Own is a week-long, flexible residency designed to give artists the time and space they need to focus on developing their professional practice. This residency was created in response to the lack of opportunities for women and non-binary artists particularly those who are mothers or have caring responsibilities, to access traditional residency programmes. With many artists in our community working from home due to the lack of affordable and child-friendly studio spaces, we hear time and again of their urgent need for dedicated time and space to focus on their work. The short term, flexible and parent-friendly nature of our residencies allow artists to create a residency model that works for them. It offers the opportunity to reflect, research or develop work within our bright, warm and welcoming space in Edinburgh. Whether you need a block of dedicated time to yourself in the studio to focus on your work uninterrupted, or you would like to bring children/family members to work alongside you or support you, we will work on an individual basis to tailor the program to your needs.

A Room of One’s Own is an independently funded programme for artists who already have their own funding in place to cover the costs of their residency. We can support artists with funding applications by providing an official letter of acceptance, and can support the marketing of crowdfunding campaigns.
