Idea
The JAVOR-ART artist residency in Javorov Do, located on the Olympic mountain Bjelašnica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is intended for visual artists (painters, sculptors, designers) and is a branch of the Javorwood Festival, whose artist residency has existed since 2016. Just like the festival, the main idea of the project is to support and connect young, unestablished artists, while also reconnecting them with nature.
In a completely natural, mountainous environment, participants have the opportunity to stay in nature, develop their talents, knowledge, and skills, and connect with other artists and colleagues from around the world.
System
Javor-Art offers artists stays of 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks. Selected participants will stay in a mountain cabin located in the heart of the forest on-site, with one shared and two private rooms, along with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Surrounded by untouched nature, they will create their works under the guidance of a professional mentor. A restaurant on-site offers top-quality local and traditional food, providing breakfast and lunch on all working days of the residency.
Artists will be able to work on the projects they submitted in their applications, under mentor supervision. Art materials and supplies are not provided, except for what is naturally available on-site (wood and stone, along with some heavy tools for sculptors). Javor-Art does not cover travel costs, but provides transportation from the airport to the site and back.
Location
Javorov Do is a mountain resort located 2.5 km from the Olympic ski center on Bjelašnica. It’s a 30-minute drive from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, and 20 minutes from the airport. The landscape is surrounded by coniferous and deciduous forests, including maple trees—after which the resort is named and which serve as its symbolic emblem. Javorov Do features a lake, a stone amphitheater with a capacity of around 500 seats, a grassy sports field, a restaurant, covered picnic tables, a bocce court, a motor skills park, 4 zip lines, a stone tower, well-maintained walking paths, cycling and hiking trails, a children’s park, and parking space for about 500 cars.
