What is the Development Grant? Catapult gives early support to propel projects forward that hold the promise of a story that should be uniquely told in the film. We provide development funding, up to $20,000, to documentary filmmakers who have a strong story to tell, have secured access, and are ready to create a fundraising piece to help unlock critical production funding. We enable filmmakers to develop their projects to the next level, at the early stage when funding is hard to find. We support powerful and moving storytelling, by filmmakers with a strong voice across a broad spectrum of subject matter. Learn more here. 2022 Development Grant Rounds In 2022, Catapult will accept applications for our development grant in two rounds:

Round one: The development grant will be open from January 1st - February 28th with grantees announced in June 2022.

Round two: The development grant will be open July 1st - August 31st with grantees announced December 2022.

The Catapult Research Grant is the newest expansion of Catapult Film Fund’s ongoing commitment to developing nonfiction films and filmmakers. Our new program seeks to develop the voices of diverse filmmakers by providing five $10,000 grants plus six months of mentorship and professional development. The grant is open to US-based filmmakers only.

The grant can be used for a variety of needs for developing new nonfiction film ideas including research, writing, travel, crew, identifying and gaining access to protagonists, and any preliminary production costs associated with shaping the artistic vision or capturing early footage.
