Selected Opportunities – 3 - 9 August

Plicnik Space Initiative

Plicnik Space Initiative aims to deconstruct the current online curatorial rationale. Through its caricature of the museum it offers new ways for artists to shape a future art ecosystem. Together with the artists they reflect on the conditions artists are met with when displaying their work, and the bureaucracy involved with displaying art. Artists are invited to create work for atypical spaces (such as a desert that functions as dehumidifier or an engine) inside a virtual spacecraft in whatever way they see fit. In this process we intend to give greater agency to artists in showcasing their work.

Deadline: Saturday, 15 August 2020

Science in the Arts: Breakthrough of the Year 2020

The Falling Walls Foundation is a non-profit platform working internationally to promote scientific breakthroughs in all disciplines. This year, we are going digital and creating a global showcase that gathers, celebrates and discusses a vast array of breakthroughs in science and society – The Falling Walls Breakthroughs of the Year.

For the ‘Science in the Arts Category’ we welcome nominations for artists whose work is inspired and influenced by science across a wide range of subjects (from the humanities to life sciences, technology and more), which sheds light on societal issues, natural phenomena or simply the wonder of scientific discoveries, and which highlights the unique relationship between these apparently opposite but often highly complementary disciplines.
