We are excited to introduce a new name to Berlin dance & theatre scene - Maya Dunsky, multidisciplinary Israeli artist, painter, Butoh dancer and choreographer.
“My dance works express an essence that is free from concrete story. They are characterized by esthetics, minimalism and with constant touch to the universal spirit, that reconnects hearts & souls of all mankind. My activity is committed to authenticity that does not correspond to what is considered to be customary.
I aspire to lead the awakened and present audience into rear worlds where they can let gooff attachment & recall the true primal nature of being". [Maya Dunsky]
During her first visit in Berlin Maya invites you to be part of an intensive Butoh workshop that focuses on creating your garment/dress/costume. The participants will assemble, dismantle, build, reduce and reattach costumes that will serve as an inspiration to connect with new and unpredictable identities. Materials that may have been foreign to each other in daily life, come together to construct a new zone- a new home-a new body that holds the invitation for the dancer to surrender into his/hers unique dance.
We will explore together the inner motion and frequencies and how they slowly and gently gather strength as they form an ecstatic presence. Through the process that encourages one to shed off habits and beliefs, an authentic body language will unfold.
The workshop is for those interested in deep inner process that guides to the essence. Suitable for movement lovers, dancers, actors, theatre and psychodrama practitioners, dance therapists and others artistic and therapeutic professions, that touch the imagination, transformation and empowerment.
Wild journey's lovers are warmly invited…
** The participants are encouraged to bring clothes, fabrics, rags, papers, objects, accessories, colors, make-up, wires, adhesives and anything else that could help create a space/environment that can inspire the birth of an unknown character and a new dance to be born.

MAYA DUNSKY, multidisciplinary artist, painter, Butoh dancer and choreographer.
Born in Israel, she has spent her early childhood in Nigeria. She is educated in Fine Arts, graphic design, creative dance & choreography. Maya paved her way in the Butoh world since 1985 as a student of the master Ohno Kazuo, the founder of Butoh. She lived, studied and created in Japan for 6 years.
Since 1998 Maya gives master classes, facilitates ongoing Butoh dance workshops. She guides processes of creativity & specializes in transforming from one's self therapy into awakening to the path of the artist within.
Maya creates and performs mainly as soloist. Part of her dance pieces are duets, ensemble works and video dance. She designs the soundtracks for her dance works, as well as the minimalistic stage design and costumes.
Maya also teaches a unique painting workshop called "Space ‘ Colour ‘ Consciousness", a method she developed. Her paintings are found in museums and private collections in Israel, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Basel and Berlin.
Butoh is an avant-garde soul dance born in Japan in the late 50's, as a spiritual rebellion, by the dancers/ Masters Hijikata Tatsumi & Ohno Kazuo. Since the 80's, it is a universal artistic language with various characteristics and different styles. Its undefined nature does not address itself to what is easily acceptable or considerably “beautiful”.
While Hijikata's way is considered as "Ankoku Butoh" - dance of the darkness, Ohno Kazuo opened a portal of transformation from darkness to light. His fundamental concept that from any darkness a flower may always grow, influences one's beliefs and approach to life, to healing processes and to creativity.
Butoh draws its many expressions through an absolute and direct journey into the depths of the soul and leads to extreme aside introversion and intimacy, unfolding a world of magic and inner rituals, offering a world of contrasts and ecstatic state of being. An inner motion is born, slowly and gently forms itself out of emotional intensity.
The Butoh dancer, liberated from the need to create shapes in space, is connected to the nature of essence & exists in a quiet zone of deep listening, within a secretive presence. It is an intimate presence, not addressed to the private and vibrates into space, treasured at peak, exposed and transforming the perception of time, size and space. [Maya Dunsky]
