Ulu Braun I Christina Kral I Niina Lehtonen Braun
Pasi Mäkelä I Vieno Motors & Guests
The exhibition No Lightning Strikes the Nettle celebrates Midsummer as a tender moment full of promise, anxiety and immanent change, epitomized in the works of artists Ulu Braun, Christina Kral, Niina Lehtonen Braun, Pasi Mäkelä and Vieno Motors.
The exhibiting artists have in common that they observe the mundane life and order in the city and propose parallel views that defeat reality and challenge established notions of beauty and belonging. They focus on details that are otherwise likely to be dismissed. Niina Lehtonen Braun, who initiated the show, refers to it as broken beauty—something seemingly innocent, simple and pretty that is permeated with an obscure, twisted, and at times, violent vision of the world.
The works presented include film (Ulu Braun), installation (Christina Kral), collages (Niina Lehtonen Braun), performance (Pasi Mäkelä), and flower arrangements (Vieno Motors)
No Lightning strikes the Nettle opens on June 19 at 6pm with introducing words by the artists and runs until June 28. One week only, open daily! The closing event will be part of this year’s 48h Neukölln Festival (June 26-28).
