DOCH is pleased to present its first celebration of art and music featuring the exhibition GAZE by Danielle Johansen and grooves by our resident DJ’s Ben Olayinka and Bobby Richardson.
Danielle Johansen is an Australian artist who completed her BFA at the University of New South Wales Art and Design, Sydney. As of completion, the artist undertook a 3 month residency a part of The Institut für Alles Möglich and has since resided and based herself in Berlin.
In Gaze, the artist presents a series of paintings and illustrative works detailing intimate moments in both public and private spaces, captured either through the lens of a camera or the artist’s own memorized interpretation which is then manifested onto canvas and paper.
The exhibition portrays a personal female experience of identity and sexuality shared between the artist herself, friends and lovers, from the perspective of the artist’s point of view, particularly in the series of illustrations. This allows for the work to present a form of introspection, to examine one’s own emotions and existence within the realm of female desire.
Doch is a monthly exhibition and dance brought to you by an international collective of visual artists and dj’s.
By creating a platform outside of the slow-moving and rigid structures of the established cultural section, we are committed to generating opportunities for up and coming artists to present work and explore new ideas. Based at the extraordinary Warschau Café in Neukölln, Doch celebrates the peculiar, the raw, the funky and poetic.
