Frankfurt Art Fair:
The Discovery Art Fair wants art to be lived again
In times like these, the fact that the third edition of the “Discovery Art Fair” will be opening its doors from October 29th to November 1st at the Messe Frankfurt fairgrounds is not self-evident. While many fairs have had to cancel this year’s autumn art season, the DAF organizers have been working intensively with the Messe Frankfurt to design the beloved art fair in such a way as to maintain its relaxed and inspiring atmosphere and, at the same time, guarantee all hygiene regulations and the safety of visitors and exhibitors.
The first public fair at the Messe Frankfurt fairground since the beginning of the pandemic is all about art
The move into the substantially larger Halle 1 – the former Art Frankfurt hall – allows for a looser stand arrangement, distance areas and wide aisles. Additional sites for sculpture enhance the offerings at this year’s fair, which will be presenting on more than 7.000 square meters around 100 exhibitors from all areas of contemporary art. This has allowed, despite the current travel entry restrictions, to actually increase the number of participants in comparison to the past two years, which can be read as an important signal for Frankfurt as an art market location.
The digital fair companion: contactless information for visitors
As the first German art fair, the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt will use the innovative services of fynd.art, a start-up from Austria. With the newly developed web application, visitors to the fair can scan exhibited works and receive information about the artwork and artist contactlessly on their smartphones. The scanned works of art can be stored in a personal watch list and can be retrieved even after the fair. The web app takes over the function of flyers and catalogs and, with the option of easy contactless collection of data and facts, not only optimizes the fair visit, but also provides further support in the context of a comprehensive hygiene concept to reduce the risk of infection.
Thousands of artworks are looking for new owners
This – particularly for the art-fair landscape – unique, carefully curated mix of galleries, projects, and solo artists ensures an exciting look into current art production. The selection spans from painting, photo art, and works on paper, to sculpture and installation, to mixed media work and urban art.
Notable participants like Frankfurt’s Galerie Barbara von Stechow, Düsseldorf’s Galerie Bengelsträter, Berlin’s Galerie Gräfe art.concept, or Galerie Augarde from the Eifel offer an attractive arrangement of both up-and-coming and established positions. Young galleries and artist projects offer art explorers and collectors the chance to find a work of art suited to all tastes and budgets. And the “Artist Section” affords the unique opportunity to meet the artists in person and discuss their work with them.
All art fans looking to enter into a dialogue with artists and gallerists and who are seeking a unique original are cordially invited – preferably by booking an online ticket in advance, as the maximum number of visitors is limited.
What’s more, the organizer’s send their appeal out to all art lovers to support artists, especially now, by purchasing a small or even large work of art and beautifying their home with their new favorite piece.
