Curated by_collective is in Berlin for a residency during the whole of January 2015.
The exhibition Can’t fool me now, organized by Maaike Bakker and Jayne Crawshay-Hall opens on the 30th of January at 19h00 (Niederlassung, Wedding, Berlin).
South African artists were requested to produce work in response to the theme Can’t fool me now. A working project, Can’t fool me now also forms the crux of a progressive curatorial study that will investigate to what extent the installation of art objects can inform the public’s reception of a show. The exhibition will be installed in a number of different instances, documented, and compared, before settling on the final installation for the 30th of January. The various instances of the exhibition will also be displayed online, so viewers can engage in the ongoing study of the various instantiations of the same show, and responses will be documented in the form of practice-led research.
Can’t fool me now provides a platform for the Berlin public to preview contemporary up-and-coming fine art from a South African context. The investigation entails both the reception of the South African art current within the European public space, as well as an investigation into the installation of the art works inspired by a European context.
