Shot in the streets of Shibuya, Omotesando, Ginza and Asakusa as the sun faded on 4 September 2014, Tokyo Cinderella Dolls is a photography exhibition that tells the fantasy of two dolls who wished to be real girls. Their fantasy comes to life in the streets of Tokyo and through the lens of Japanese artist and photographer Karin Shikata, 24.
Just like Cinderella who had till midnight to attend the Prince’s ball, the dolls, whose momentary quickening would soon end, explore the city they had previously only dreamed about as the sun set on Tokyo. The whimsical images show the dolls-turned-girls – played by models and former Takarazuka Revue theatre performers Mirei Uchida and Yu Ranma – experiencing the everyday lives of Japanese youths, eating street food, taking a selfie and riding the train, until night falls and dollhood beckons.
The exhibition was from Jan. to Mar. 2015 at SPRMRKT in Singapore.
