Sebastian Meissner

Since the mid 90s I am using computer software and hardware to create sound and compose music. I work with computer sounds, samples, recordings of classic instruments, field-recordings and voice.

My works were released on pioneering electronic music labels such as Mille Plateaux, Kompakt, Anticipate Recordings, Raster Noton, Sub Rosa and many more.

I have performed on five continents at many fine venues and festivals such as Transmediale, CTM, Schirn Kunsthalle, Sonar, Steirischer Herbst, Mutek, Sonic Acts, EME, Dissonanze, Lincoln Center in New York and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival.

I have contributed sound works for several stage plays, performance pieces and films. I created installations and participative art projects for ORF Musikprotokoll, RAI Cinema, ARTE, Theater Koblenz, Festival of Jewish Culture in Krakow and Al-Bald Theater in Amman.

For the last couple of years I have been writing, directing and producing radio features and dramas for German public broadcasters such as Deutschlandradio and WDR3.

I studied Sociology, American Culture Studies and Social Pedagogy at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and I am interested in the theory of social/cultural identity, urbanism, music history and art criticism.
